If clearing trees are bad.

Some one should tell Fox 8 that Entergy and Sleeca are I n the middle a project that cleared some cypress trees between Amelia and Morgan City for some upgrades to some high voltage lines. That I am pretty sure trees will not be as welcomed to return as is the case for a pipeline.

It’s only swamp and trees and water. Who needs that stuff anyway. Louisiana has an infinite amount which will always be there and never erode away. We have too many trees, in any case.

We all know of his was just a pipeline from LC to St. James there would not be a peep. But because it’s connected to fracking up north it’s being faught tooth and nail

I have a solution. Halt the pipeline and in return those opposed to it pay an extra tax for their gasoline to offset the cost to those of us not opposed to the pipeline. Should be agreeable to everybody.

We should halt the pipeline and put more tanker trucks on I-10.

It doesn't have enough traffic anyways.

Agree that the traffic is a huge problem. How would you deliver the fuel from the refinereies to the filling stations?

The problem with Eminent Domain is that it has been so abused and interpreted in many states that a private for profit company can expropriate other private property for "public purpose."

Would the courts allow an ethylene line to be constructed in the middle of Thib's rice farm although ethylene is only a feedstock to make a joint of plastic pipe and the average citizen cannot liken it to a "common carrier? Yes. The pipeline company will argue that some jobs will be created. Could a Mariot replace a Motel 6 to provide enhanced taxes? Possibly.

Will the pipeline company offer the landowner a one-time pittance for placing a disruptive easement on his property and being allowed to use the land forever without any long term commitments to purchase its product and guarantees of employment? Definitely. Sasol N.A. recognizing that they are responsible to their shareholders recently shelved a large expansion in Calcalieu Parish for economic reasons.

Seemingly landowners are forming an unlikely alliance with environmentalists to right this worng.

Just quit throwing the cypress trees on the ground creating "debris". i'm pretty sure many people would take those trees trunks off their hands.

A lot of companies mitigate erosion by leaving felled trees and subsequent slash/chippings on open ground until grubbing, trenching and final restoration take place. Its actually a reasonable practice and permitted by most regulating agencies.

That being said the slash/chippings appeared to have maybe floated away after some rain events in this case. Nothing is allowed outside of the permitted workspaces and this is probably a non-compliance issue and a fine for the contractor.

River waters have risen to the level as to where the cleared swamp lands are now flooded.

In which case the vegetative matter is distributed about the swamp to deteriorate over time as is natural for such a place.

75 feet is the typical width of such a pipeline

If it’s paralleling an existing right of way there should be no concern It’s not fragmenting habitat ...
