This is how class action law suits happen and I can promise you Fed Ex doesn’t want to tie themselves into one of those

Thank you for this.

I just looked into it and there are in fact numerous class action lawsuits currently filed against FED EX specifically for charging customs taxes on exempt items like used vinyl records, books etc.

I've noticed that you're an expert at somehow googling incorrect information and then getting on a soapbox about something other people have a ton more experience

Losers use Google.

I wrote the business requirements for v2 of an app for a multi billion dollar business precisely to handle international shipments that included duties and insurance. I've downloaded and examined the bulk upload spreadsheets for Fedex, DHL and UPS in furtherance of examining different shipping requirements, including copies of passports that need to be submitted for certain countries, etc.

But yeah, I know nothing and will crawl back into my hole for an hour in penance.

FedEx is turrible. If they deliver your package to the wrong house you are SOL.

And yet you'd actually do better with google.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) rules and exemption code 9903.03.11 spells out pretty clearly what is still exempt.

That's actually the basis of the numerous current class action suits against Fed Ex for the exact "error" I've described here. (Which I just thought to look up when another poster above mentioned it)

What would your professional advice be to a business owner that reads:

"When recent trade policies scaled back or suspended the "$800 de minimis" rule, CBP specifically outlined exceptions under headings 9903.03.02 through 9903.03.11 (or corresponding 9903.01 lines) to ensure that informational items, including vinyl records, remain completely tariff-free"

It's spelled out about as clearly as possible like on https://www.whitehouse.gov

Would you tell them to just keep paying the tax because you think you may recall differently?
