i have to carry an epi-pen everywhere i go, since an anaphylaxis episode a few years ago in a remote area...i had to be airlifted to a hospital by the USCG (cheers to those coasties)
no big deal except the pens expire every two years, and they cost me $600 for a two-pack for what is essentially an adrenaline shot. this is long overdue

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved the first generic version of EpiPen, providing new competition that could help drive down the cost of a lifesaving product that had become a notorious symbol of high drug prices.
The generic copy is made by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, and will rival Mylan, which had come under intense criticism for raising the price of its EpiPen sixfold since buying it in 2007. Mylan’s device has been plagued by periodic shortages, with consumers scrambling again in recent months to find a reliable supply.

Congrats. Any idea of the cost of the generic?

I feel bad for the formula kids that have to carry an epi pen around but it’s kind of unfair they won’t make an epi pen for us normal hangover sufferers

That would be a game changer

That’s great! It’s so not cool how many people need this but can’t afford it because the company jacked up the price.

That’s what essential oils are.

Allergy sufferers as a group get the shaft often. Next they’ll try to raise the price of pocket protectors!

I have Auvi-Q, which they've given me free for the past cycle or two.

I never understood this line. I have been buying them for years and never pay more than $50.
I guess my insurance favors medication over extended hospital stay.

They have a expiration date as required by the FDA, but the drug will remain effective for years afterwards, keep expired pens for backup.

"Study author Lee Cantrell, professor of medicine and pharmacy at the University of California, San Diego, and his team measured the epinephrine concentration of 40 expired EpiPens and EpiPen Jrs. They found that 29 months after expiration, the pens contained at least 90% of their stated amount of epinephrine. Pens 50 months -- more than four years -- past the printed expiration date had more than 84% of the medication.
"Essentially, all of these would still be in the recommended therapeutic range," said Dr. Thomas Casale, a professor of medicine at the University of South Florida and executive vice president of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. "
