And I'll argue that they abandoned conservatism in that regard.
I disagree. Conservatism has never been about small government. Its been more about a federalist system where power is located in the hands of the people, not DC and more power is concentrated in small govt, not large govt. However, the "small govt" meaning state and local.
Conservatives have always had an element that limited personal freedom, which is basically all that separates them from most libertarians.
The biggest differences are where power is accumulated.

So, you're not a constitution conservative.

There aren't any.
If so, they would be much closer to Libertarian than conservative. All conservatives believe in limits on personal freedom.

Your opinion on the 10th amendment is all an objective 3rd party needs to label you big government or small government. If someone says they're conservative but supports any kind of federal overreach, you need to verify anything else they tell you.

Individual freedom should be evaluated when one's freedom encroaches on another's. Libertarians aren't the only group that believes this.

How would a republican voting cop reconcile this if asked?

Instead of arguing over the definition of "conservatives" why don't y'all focus on the government attacking it's own citizens that did nothing wrong other than express their displeasure with their schools teaching a racist agenda?
Everyone right or left should be pizzed off about the government being used this way.

So you support "negative rights" governing just like the marxists. Its the slippery slope that leads to things like the interstate commerce clause and "hate crime" legislation.
Its just the degree to which you might disagree. I'm not saying its wrong, just saying its happening.

No, I used the word "evaluated". If I smoke and my neighbor is offended by my second hand, should I be prohibited from smoking on my patio? frick no.
If I like pissing in my front yard and my neighbor is concerned about his child seeing my third leg, should I be encouraged to stop? Probably, yeah.

let me see if i can wrap my head around this….
So, LBTQXYX+ sharing their beliefs while pushing gender identity and sexual orientation; along with CRT infiltrating the actual learning materials is fine.
BUT, concerned parents peacefully expressing their disdain for pointless mask and vaccine mandates….is criminal?

Hence the slippery slope
I don't think the government should ban smoking in restaurants. Let the people decide where they want to go.
When we keep collectively making decisions for people, humans become lazy and unintellectual.
Both dominant ideologies put individual freedom below their vision of safety and security.

I was merely using his own quote
Maybe it's not deflection but pointing out hypocrisy. As always.

You lying shitbird.
Traditional conservatives, he's correct. Individual liberty to conservatives takes a place below safety and security.
Traditional conservatives favored a strong criminal justice system.
While that is true, the op doesn't fall under that. That's a weak/broken criminal justice system, the opposite of what was traditionally favored.
