But he didn't have a need to act. I've been to tons of higher profile sporting events than this junior high/high school wrestling meet where kids/adults were competing with world team/olympic spots on the line where there have been either illegal or questionable actions taken and in no situation has someone come running from outside those competing to interject himself.
There's just no justification for it

Dad is in the wrong, but it's an illegal move for a reason. Kid's legs were like jelly afterwards. That move could've paralyzed him

It's hard to see because the ref gets in the way, but he initially gets up, wobbles a bit and falls to his knees as his dad tackles the other kid.

The people defending the father's actions may be more pathetic and depraved than the father.
If a player delivers a cheap hit in a football game should a dad run out and tackle the player who did it? In a basketball game after a hard foul? If a pitch hits your kid should you go tackle the pitcher?
That is how ANIMALS without reason handle things.

Exact same thing happened to my son. My son didn’t know where he was for about 30 seconds, had a concussion. Refs did a good job and the other kid was DQ’d because my kid couldn’t continue because of an illegal move. Other kid was devastated that he hurt my son, went and checked on him. Yes it’s illegal, yes it’s dangerous, but sometimes young kids do stupid shite without thinking. I wasn’t mad, didn’t tackle him.

The kid that was tackled by the dad should have DQ’d.
That is a highly dangerous and illegal move.
Dad has a right to be pissed but should have tackled the ref.

Than why was his first instinct not to go to his child.
And no referee would DQ on that move. Most good ones would call for the penalty. It was not intentional but still a penalty. I challenge you to find a licensed wrestling referee to say that was a DQ. I have been in or watched hundreds of meets and have seen instances such as that a lot of times. You have two people wrestling full speed and the momentum puts them in a perilous position. That is why there is a penalty for the wrestler to try and avoid such but it happens. It happens a lot and I have never seen a DQ except in a few instances where it was obvious as to intent. This was not close to that.
Adding the word highly is odd.. It is potentially dangerous would be a better description and that is why the penalty.
