To you it probably doesn't. But there's a lot of bickering about how fatty made their health costs go up. It WASN'T Tubby who made health costs go up.
It's not the only factor, but it's definitely a factor, and a large one at that.

there were PLENTY of fat fricks running around in 2008, and my healthcare costs were low. And that's with 2 kids
**in 2008 i weighed 215 with a 36 inch waist.

Are there published statistics on the increase in health insurance costs based due to the rise in obesity? I'm legit curious.

I'm curious too because I don't remember Tricare raising my health insurance costs a significant amount the past five years.

on this topic.
me, the wife, and a couple friends went to the New Braunfels Schlitterbahn about 3 weeks ago on a Saturday. After being there a few hours, we all had a conversation discussing how astonished we were at the ridiculous amount of obese people who were there and who apparently have 0 shame in putting on a swim suit and grossing out the healthy population of waterpark goers.

If you truly believe fatties are costing you more in taxes and are a major contributor of raised healthcare premiums, you need to get some learnin’.
I say we shame dumbarses, although their struggle through life is hard enough, I suppose.

I mean, the more unhealthy people are, the higher healthcare costs are going to be. Being fat is unhealthy, and being obese is dangerously unhealthy. It makes logical sense they would have a direct effect on healthcare costs.
IMO the real problem is we don't promote preventative healthcare (healthy diet, exercise, etc) enough in this country. The majority of the focus is on curing illnesses after they've been diagnosed. It's arse backwards IMO.

if you're pissed about premiums for health insurance, it's really this simple.
Before Obamacare, you never even noticed how much money was taken out of your paycheck for health insurance. Not only that, you had a $500 or $1,000 deductible.
First year of Obamacare, you shite your pants when you saw how much money came out for Health Insurance. Not only that, your deductible was $3,000. $6,000 for family.
Then, second year of Obamacare, you not only shite your pants when you saw the premium, but you also considered moving to another country

I'm not reading 13 pages so this may have been touched on. How about we start at the top where the real problem is - the Standard American Diet (SAD) and the food pyramid, recommended by congress and paid for by the Agriculture Lobby.
The food pyramid is an absolute joke designed to make a nation of fat diabetics. Different lifestyles also have different nutritional needs. An office worker doesn't need a 75g carb breakfast to go work behind a desk, pack in another 75g of carbs for lunch, then go back to the desk - even though that fits well within dietary guidelines (300g/carbs for a 2000 cal/day diet).
quote:
People in this country aren't educated on proper nutrition due to corporate dollars and corrupt lawmakers lining their pockets and not giving a damn
Don't know if that's the only reason, but you're right people are not educated on nutrition. Flat out ignorance is certainly also out there.
quote:
When Europeans eat our white bread and they say it tastes like cake to them. There's a real problem in our basic food sources
Yup. And going back to the food pyramid there's usually a picture of white bread in the "things you should eat the most of" block at the bottom.

Sure, Americans consume soda like its water but its also advertised and pushed on every other billboard, tv commercial, and radio spot. Maybe if lawmakers took a hard stance on that like tobacco and limited the advertising outlets like in the 80's it'll go a long way to removing the subliminal push the industry has on Americans. Sugar causes cancer, why isn't that on every ad we see?
Excessive sugar intake does the same damage to the liver as excessive alcohol intake.
I don't think anyone is confusing soda for healthy. However, things like orange juice and fruity yogurts with added sugar are deceptively used as "healthy foods" by some.

With that all said, I like the fat chicks.
I will let you have them.

Here's a better plan that will serve you well in life:
Leave people the frick alone.

Unhealthy people = higher healthcare costs = higher premiums for all of us.

i never had one conversation about high healthcare costs before Obamacare. After Obamacare, it's an everyday topic
Now, if you can show me where Obamacare came about due to Fatty the fatass, I will concede my argument

It's changed in the last 20 years. What we used to consider fat is now normal. Just wait another 20 years. These fat kids will be enormous adults.

From one of the studies linked above:
quote:
Obese people account for 37 percent of the United States’ population, but obesity-related diseases and health problems account for 61 percent of healthcare costs in the United States every year (“The Economics of Overweight and Obesity,” 2007). The costs exceed $147 billion per year
I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're saying we need to get some learnin', so... Learn us some stuff. One of the links says obesity and obesity related illnesses account for 61% of healthcare costs. Learn us why that's not impacting our healthcare premiums.

You do not have a thyroid problem.
No I have been clearly shown to have a thyroid problem by multiple doctors
Just for the sake of the thought process here, some observations...
Some folks have fat genes and some do not.
Both my grandfathers were athletes at the pro level.
One lived to be 100 and ate an obscene amount of food but always stayed thin. Looking at my other family on that side, they were all this way. The other died in his late 70's (mostly due to smoking) but was always round, especially in the belly and some in the face.
As for me, my doctor grew up with me so he knew me as a child and knew I was never fat as a kid, just big and strong. He said some body types can be heavier than others even if they do. not look it to the casual observer. When I was 220 you could see my ribs but because of my height was considered morbidly obese when the insurance folks saw the data but then saw me in real life and had to make the adjustments. When I was 220 most folks who saw me in real life said I looked more like 165 to 175. Nobody ever believed I weighed 220 till I got on the scale.
Also, FYI, you can have a good diet and not eat badly but still struggle with weight.
Since childhood we could not afford soda pop so I never got hooked. Basically as a kid I drank water, tea, dairy, and juice. Now that I am old it is mostly just tea (no caffeine and no sugar) and water. We also never had sweets as a kid so even to this day it is quite rare for me.
I do not eat out much and I do not eat packaged food (like brands or frozen food). After 40 I have pretty much given up fried foods (maybe fried chicken once a month). Most of my diet is proteins and low sugar vegetables and greens (i.e. no potatoes, carrots, beets, and other high sugar and high carb vegetables) with some good oil fats and nuts to supplement an all protein diet. I do take vitamins, which at my age is pretty much mandatory.
Not only is my daily diet pretty damn healthy but I log my food daily to keep my caloric intake between 1,800 and 1,200 calories a day. Even with all this it is still tough to lose weight between genetics and thyroid so take your self righteous smug arse and go f*ck yourself unless you have a real way to lose weight and keep it off besides just fat shaming.
Now if you have some real advice, I am all ears.
