In Memphis most people go roughly the speed limit but there's always someone in the right lane driving a piece of shite held together by nothing much stronger than duct tape going 35 MPH and someone flying up behind you going 110 and switching back and forth across all lanes of traffic without turn signals, missing other people's bumpers by no more than a foot...which all in all creates a pretty volatile driving situation.

I used to commute back and forth between NO and BR and I was always afraid of getting rear-ended because people tailgate like nowhere else, especially the stretch from Gonzales to BR.

Texas drivers seem faster when they're in their own state for some reason though.

Even people I know from tx acknowledge that they dgaf, they always speed.

Not so much of where people are from, but I can tell you one thing, people fricking fly on the Alabama section of I-22. It's new, wide, not much traffic, and fairly cop free. I'm not exaggerating when I say driving 90-100 is keeping up with the normal traffic flow. There is so much expansive empty land around it, driving 100 feels like 70 on the typical interstate.

Speaking of driving in Birmingham, the 20 miles of I-459 loop is like driving at 'Dega. Alabama drivers are on the fast drivers list because they are used to a tiny state trooper presence. Driving in NC and the amount of police on road is night and day compared to AL.

I grew up and learned how to drive in NJ and NY. Nobody beats them in the crazy driving. I left and lived in Hawaii for 3 years wherte the highest the speed limit was 55 mph on only two spots on the island and came back for a wedding where I had to drive from NJ through NYC to Connecticut. It was the worst drive I have ever done as I had gotten out of my aggressive driving. Going 70 in a 55 in the right lane getting passed and flipped off constantly. I needed a strong drink after that drive.

California
A lot more car owners that own cars that can handle higher speeds.
A lot better highways.
A lot of open roads especially from LA to Vegas.

New Mexico has been crazy. 75 mph speed limit, open spaces, few cops = 100mph+ by people regularly.

I forgot to note, not that it is really addressed in the thread title anyway, are the Germans that are around the Tuscaloosa area that work for Mercedes.
You can tell who they are 2 ways: they are wearing funny glasses and are driving Mercedes vehicles with special "manufacturer" license plates.
Those frickers go a minimum of 90 on the interstate. I'm fairly certain that they have some type of diplomatic immunity from the state and that was part of the incentive package of bringing the Mercedes plant to Alabama.

I would imagine the fastest drivers are out west where the limit is 80 MPH.

According to Wiki one stretch of freeway in TX is 85

There are 2 lane highways all over Texas where the speed limit is 75, and there isn't a cop around for miles. As crowded as Houston is, there are people that drive 90 mph. There aren't enough cops in Houston.

I'm a transplant from Louisiana. Drivers over there are just as bad about getting into and staying in the left lane.

There is a long stretch of interstate that crosses from Alabama into Georgia that I've driven a few times that is like this. I'm a habitual speeder, and cars were blowing by me every time I've taken this route - and I never see cops there.

I can go 85avg from Nashville to I12 exit. From there its 65avg if i'm lucky.

Turnpike is fastest. Kentucky is slowest in civilized society.
