Sonic has a 2 for 7.00 deal going right now. Cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, or 6 piece mozzarella sticks are the choices. A decent deal for the money.

Yes but fast food restaurants get trucks of food delivered to them. Those trucks run on gas. Their employees drive gas vehicles. Need to raise wages. The menu price then reflects that.
This is true in retail too. So prices will go up simply because the cost of doing business is going up for all of these companies.

The price before tax is higher than the one listed because like you said, they upcharge automatically to the medium sized drink.
