re: Fast Food Places That Recommend Certain Items On Their Menu

It annoys me too. Half the time it's a recording of someone who is far more cheerful and with better English than the person actually taking the order.

I understand why they do it, but a good upseller wouldn't do this with someone who obviously already knows what he wants. I got so annoyed once that I started saying "I want a burger but I don't want any fries or a drink" and some doofus responded with a cheery "Would you like a hot apple pie with that sir?"

Same here. Add on that they do breaded wings which expands in your stomach and god knows how many lemonades they drank.

All this talk of fat people gorging themselves is making me hungry.

Well, really, they do it because they have to. It's usually in the procedures mandated by corporate. When corporate sends in a 3rd party to assess that restaurant, you best believe they are docking points off if the order takers arent suggestive selling something. And honestly, if you go to a fast food place that suggestive sells then chances are it's well run and you are probably getting better food, in theory.

My little town has a special fast food diet - with the exception of one place, the local fast food joints are always out of something.

In the last month here's the list: hash browns, ice cream (all the time at McDonald's), mustard, taco meat, large cups, coffee, and Coca-Cola. It is a running joke locally about the continual inability of local fast food joints to properly stock their stuff.
