Cruise lines tell you not to set toddlers up on railings. It's not that hard. Grandpa is at fault. Sad all the way around.

The family is pushing the media coverage. It sure as hell isn't the cruise line. They want money. Like that's gonna cure anything. If I'm not mistaken the mother is a lawyer yet the grandfather is the one they Parade around like he's a victim. It's all his fault for picking the kid up and over the railing. If were him I would have jumped out the window right after his granddaughter. Problem solved.
Oh, ok.

Part of his defense is that he lifted her up so she could "bang on the glass" like she does at hockey games.

This is downright stupid. While i can understand a baby doing that at a hockey game, it is absolutely stupid to allow a baby to bang on glass as a way of entertainment.

How the hell was he not holding her tighter? He wasnt holding her close enough and wasnt paying attention.

Sorry they lost their baby but it is grandpas fault, NOT the cruiseline. Their lawsuit is rather infuriating because they place ALL the blame on the cruise ship and none on the grandpa.

I'm not even a lawyer but the cheapest thing is to settle, change the windows like the rest of the industry (no one else has windows like this) and then your brand isn't hurt as bad which is more costly than fighting a lawsuit and letting the court of public opinion cost you dearly even if you win the case.

Someone lifting her to the open space is going to make this one a tough sell. I would feel horrible for the family and not give them a single dime.

If this is true, the ship absolutely should be liable. Not following code is pretty black and white

It is, but so far the only evidence I've seen of a code violation is coming from the plaintiff.

Apparently a Puerto Rican news channel leaked the video, haven’t found it yet, but hadn’t really looked.

In my opinion the grandfather fell asleep at the wheel and the child paid the price.

I believe what happened was there was a ledge just wide enough for a toddler to stand or sit on next to the windows. All the windows were closed except for one. Obviously, the windows were clean. The grand dad put the toddler next to the window, thinking it was closed, or more correctly, not realizing it was open, and the toddler fell out. It seems like a terrible accident that will probably destroy the grand dad's life.

I think the real culprit here is gravity.

I saw the video on the daily mail website. Very blurry but it sure the hell looks like pawpaw was at the window alone, stuck his head out the window and then the baby came to him, he lifted her and out she went.

He is to blame . No one else.

Gravity didn't kill the child, Newton's third law did.
