And if he wasn't the granddad they'd be suing him, too.

So they're not suing for monetary damage? That's a nice gesture on their part.

I personally think they should relegate children to specific ships. Last time I cruised, we could never use the half the amenities because it was crowded with kids all day, every day. That said, I wouldn’t cruise with RC again.

What a strange story. If gramps is being charged with negligent homicide, how exactly can they sue RC when RC had nothing to do with the toddler's death?
Rule #1.
You can always sue no matter what. It does not matter what you sign or what you do before hand...you can always sue.

On the lido deck and above, you'll usually have windows fore and aft but in the middle you'll have railings.
Sometimes you'll have open panes, but you almost always have some open air side decks on the upper decks. We usually get a balcony cabin and I've seen people sit on the railings. Crazy

There is no jumped in. The ship was docked, the child fell to the pierside.

people suing other people over their own stupidity.

There is a difference between Criminal and Civil Courts. The family is, and should be, suing RC in the Civil Courts where a preponderance of evidence is all they need to be awarded compensation. RC is grossly at fault here regardless who was holding the child. A 2 year old fell through an open window off their ship. This is not an example of a frivolous lawsuit. This is the courts about to put a punitive penalty on RC roughly around the price you'd put on a 2 year old child's life. That is justice served.
Or they'll settle...probably settle I'd guess.

Heard Royal Caribbean has agreed to prohibit careless grandfathers from taking cruises with their granddaughters in an effort to settle the lawsuit.

If the grandfather gave two shits about the kid he should have jumped overboard as well and tried to save her...

Right. No windows that open and close. Either fixed windows, or no windows at all.

The ship was docked in PR. He dropped her on to the pier.

1) IIRC - for eighteen seconds from lift to drop. Count slow, it is an eternity.
2) If I were RC, I'd start looking for the record of who was signing the tab for cold beers.

How are they "grossly at fault" here? A 2 year old didn't fall through a window, a 2 year old was dropped out of a window by her grandfather. It's a horrible tragedy, but I am extremely interested in the facts that show RC was "grossly at fault"
