Some of the biggest assholes in HOAs are lily white soccer Mom types who have nothing better to do than to bitch about the color of someone’s mailbox or the “type” of decor that can be used.
I have a good friend whose old HOA only allows them to use “Classic holiday decor” like live wreaths and pine. The neighborhood is about as conservative and white as it gets.

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that you don't understand what the religious climate was in those days. Christian is not Christian is not Christian. The differences in Christianity is the reason we even have an America as it is today. And it wasn't "Christian charity" that "let" people in.
