The Flying Pig Marathon is facing backlash on social media after addressing claims that a 6-year-old boy ran the full marathon.

A family of eight completed the full Flying Pig marathon together, according to a father's post on Instagram. The youngest family member is 6.

quote:

after 8 hours and 35 minutes we all crossed the finish line together.”

The father said his 6-year-old son made it to mile 20 after 7 hours.

“He was struggling physically and wanted to take a break and sit every three minutes,” the father said.

Part of the office race group's statement:

quote:

I assume full responsibility for the decision and accept that it was not the best course of action. Our requirement of 18+ for participation in the marathon will be strictly observed moving forward.

I vote that it is child abuse.

He's 6. I don't know of many 6 year olds that can run a 5k. Def child abuse.

According to social media comments, witnesses said that they saw the kid crying multiple times and being bribed with sweets to keep going.

Seems dangerous to the kid

One of my favorite memes is where it’s like Lord please don’t let me marry into a family that runs marathons together

Better than the 6 year old being fed junk food and sweets constantly and raised on reality shows and is 200lbs

I would counter by saying that these huge races have awesome kids race programs attached to them that are age appropriate and a shite ton of fun for the kid.

I have never met a person who runs marathons who didn't seem a bit weird from the get go so there is that.

Not necessarily weird in a bad way but obsessed. Like vegans and cross fitters.

Idk man. My 6 year old is really smart, he’s not an athlete, but smart. I don’t believe he could comprehend and understand why he has to run so far and can’t stop. He wouldn’t be able to decipher the want to continue a 26.2 mile race.

I'd say they are both equally yet oppositely extreme and terrible for the child

In the end, I think we can all agree that social media is a cancer. The parents have done this shite for likes and the race approved it because they thought it would be cool publicity (oops).

I mean, I’d argue that being extremely fat is worse than running a bit too much.
