How many hundreds of thousands of people have eaten in revolving restaurants built the same way with no accidents?
This particular one opened in 1976 and no one had ever been caught in it before this situation.

The child must have been really into rowing to bring his boat to a restaurant.

The linked story indicates the restaurant was remodeled in 2011/2012. The earlier design may have been a better one, from a safety standpoint.

How do you have something like that operating with known pinch points?

Anyone have a picture of the"pinch point"? Just curious what the area looks like.

I've been to that restaurant...the parents had to be away from their child for a great deal of time for this to happen. It's sad, but it was totally preventable by the parents.

Obviously you’ve never had kids. They are curious by nature and can wander away in the blink of an eye from even the most attentive parent.

Or by a better design

The design has been appropriate for years...parents have to watch their kids and not blame anyone else for their lack of a watchful eye.

This kinda stuff happens all the time but people on this board still talk about how it's safe to bring kids 5 and younger to theme parks

You obviously don't have children... I love how full of shite people are when they discuss other people's kids..

This makes me think of the scissor point at L'auBerge casino in Baton Rouge before they put the glass in. Going up the escalator, while looking over the right side, you could really frick yourself up. Your head could easily get caught between the escalator handrail and the ceiling, creating like a scissor action point. But they finally put a sheet of glass in. Makes me wonder if anyone got hurt before they put the glass in. Anyone know?

I don't care if the kid was "running wild" or not, there shouldn't be any possibility that the kid could be killed by the building rotating. Definitely a flawed design
While I agree, nothing is going to be perfect. There's no such thing as foolproof. People need to take safety measures themselves along with the company building safe attractions.
I'm sad this kid had to suffer because his own parents didn't think enough, nor did the Marriott consider situations of loose children.
