Ernst & Young, an international accounting and business services firm, will create an administrative support center in New Orleans that will add 200 employees in the next three years, city, state and economic development officials announced Monday (May 6).

Most of the positions are going to be in internal firm services, with a few being new risk advisory positions.

So not like they are adding 200 new CPA jobs. But... these are still good jobs with a global company.

And...

Good news for the NOLA area.

Good to hear. I feel like 90%+ of in-state accounting grads head to Houston or elsewhere - so this is a step in the right direction.

Don’t think this expansion will be accounting graduates unfortunately.

I read one of the job postings on linkedin...Sounds like a large number of administrative assistants. I wonder why they need 175 in one office

I would venture they will support many business functions outside LA. NOLA is cheap.

Thats what my coworker and I figured...Much cheaper to hire a scheduler for a California office in NOLA than it is in San Diego

Looks like 25 risk advisory positions (which would be CPAs or equivalents) and 175 firm support positions.

The firm support could be anything basic from billing, scheduling, admin assistants, travel, etc, to more professional stuff like HR, recruiting, and training.

I would guess a lot of those positions are ones that pay 35-40K a year and don't require more than a HS education. But this city needs jobs like that... jobs that pay decently, if not greatly, but provide benefits and stable work.

EY will expand its office space, located in the Hancock Whitney Center, to 41,000 square feet. The space was formerly One Shell Square, EY is occupying an additional floor of the office tower to house its NEAT center.

In addition to the 200 new jobs, EY will retain 180 existing jobs in New Orleans. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the expansion will result in an additional 97 new indirect jobs, for a total of nearly 300 new jobs in the Southeast Region of Louisiana.

Good news for the NOLA area.

Pretty sure this happened here cause the labor is cheaper than an EY office in New York or Chicago hiring an administrative assistant. Instead they hired a bunch of people in New Orleans to work remotely and be the administrative assistant for those offices. So EY gets cheaper labor and New Orleans gets more jobs without having to add incentives.

Win-win
