It should be $400 at least a week. It's a shame that a high school kid working 40 hours a week can bring home more than I get from the state after working all these years.

Most HS students are dependents, do they even qualify for unemployment?

No. But still. A guy that had worked for years and years taking home day $500 a week it's def a slap in the face.

And the $247 a week is before taxes. Yes they take tax out of it, but you can opt out.

I heard on the radio that it’s the independent contractors/ self employed people and 1099 that are getting the extra $600. Is everyone on unemployment getting the $600? I’ve been unemployed since January and I had 3 interviews in March. Unfortunately, the O&G took a hit, with plummeting prices, then the Coronavirus hit. So needless to say, all interviews were cancelled until further notice. This shite sucks!

I think you are lucky you are getting anything at all.

And in your example the kid is actually working.

$247 a week/ $988 a month is paying mortgage note, cobra insurance, phone, and utilities?

SO the baws who work in oil and gas who make 100K a year is reduced to that amount? I know many here have 6 months of savings

The $600 is for everyone getting regular unemployment and for the self employed who become eligible. The site hasn’t posted anything for the self employed to complete yet.

It’s not just Louisiana. States had to wait until the federal Department of Labor issued guidance on the extra funds, which will be fully covered by the federal government. That guidance came out this past weekend, a week after the bill was signed.

I feel like payouts should be set up on how much taxes you paid throughout your lifetime. $247/wk being the minimum

I my opinion, it should be based on your projected social security earnings. I know I may be touching a third rail, but unemployment and social security should be combined in a way that if you taking it, either you pay it back over time or it gets taken out of your future social security benefits.

I've got about a year of savings if I would lose my job. $247 a week I would still be homeless.

Unemployment has been $247/wk for some time now. If you didn’t give a frick before, why are you giving a frick now? Oh that’s right, because it’s directly affecting a large number of you now. I guarantee if someone had mentioned upping that number before the pandemic, all you dumb fricks would’ve thrown a fit bitching about muh government handouts

Wow, $247/wk all you receive filling unemployment in LA. That wouldn’t even cover my utilities.

Not on unemployment but that would be enough for me to purchase food and alcohol for a week. It would be tough but I think I could ration it to make it last a week
