I knew a guy with an NSX when I lived out west, that car was scary. It was heavily modified, but he didn’t touch the engine. All suspension and brakes...and lighter bits.

Also knew a guy out there who paid $250k for a BMW Z8, right when they came out. Car was unreal...but ‘value’ plays little roll in those emotional decisions.

Yeah, I had a new 2006 KR.

Slow as molasses, shitty mpg, smoked on startup at 40K.

Sorry for the hijack OP

I actually think this is a good looking car, and I might have lusted after one with a true manual transmission.

The sticker price and the long, drawn out reveal killed this one I think. Plus it really looks nothing at all like the old NSX that almost everyone loves.

Amazing car. Unfortunately the LFA was never really meant to be a "production" car, but more of a test bed. Toyota actually loses money for everyone they build. I think it only has about 8-10 gallons of fuel capacity.

If you buy a c8 base you're wasting your money. The ZR1 version will 100% appreciate though

I prefer a manual & the C8 is DCT / paddle shifter only.

Can someone vouch for Paddle shifters over manual for fun in a sports car? I do understand the economics/ better tech, but.......fun?

I don't race competitively like others in this thread, but in the track days and schools I've been to, you don't miss the manual. Most manufactures and schools don't even provide a manual car anyway.

It is nice to keep both hands on the wheel and you quickly adapt to just using your fingers to up/down.

depends on the person. Is rowing through the gears and heel toeing more fun than setting the quickest time?

I might prefer a manual on a nice curvy mountain road, but give me the DCT on the track every time

Paddle shifters in fast cars are very quick. I can work them well, but still forget to hit the paddle sometimes, where I'd never forget to change gears in a manual

First I am a DCT convert and I always answer the question like this:

Don't answer just think about the following. Is heel and toe completely second nature? Do you catch yourself doing it around town when speed is the last thing on your mind? If the answer is yes then a manual will likely be more "fun" or more accurately you will likely feel a greater sense of accomplishment when driving one.

Some are. If an alien showed up how would you explain the cost difference?

Does the alien race understand ROI?

Sales stats show you are in the decided minority. Hence, the manufacturers are eliminating them from their option lists.

DCT's are far quicker in every way than a manual and user friendly.

Don't get me wrong; I love driving a manual. But reality is the DCT's are faster while being much nicer when stuck in traffic.

Hard to say exactly where it will draw sales from. The P-car fans and to a degree BMW M car fans are extremely loyal and the C7 already offered much more bang for the buck.

Keep in mind Porschephiles are a group that will pay $400 for a tach in a deviated color, $1300 for carbon fiber door sills and $300 to have the Porsche crest on the seatbacks when they order a 911. The C8 will most likely eat sales from the 718 chassis.

That's my take as well.

The 911 may lose a few to the C8, but if you want a 911, that's the car you want.

I mean, Porsche doesn't even build two identical 911s in a model year and many will pay for that exclusivity.

Yes

However, I don't think Porsche really sweats this new c8 even for the 718. It'll lose some sales, but probably not too many.

Sure it kills it performance wise, but the 718 has it beat in the same areas a 911 has it beat.

Agreed on all parts. Only problem is the new Supra is an auto, not a DCT. With that said, modern automatics are also superior to old school manuals.

Another note on the new Supra, it is severely underrated by Toyota. The shops that have dynoed them are getting 345+ to the tires, putting crank horsepower north of 400. It runs mid 12s at 109, so it will be a very quick car with basic exhaust and boost tuning. 11s if not high 10s are a possibility.

That and the Boxster.

Honestly, I think the most FUN car to drive for 2020 if you have the money and can be graced with an allocation is the Cayman GT4. Lightweight (in todays new car terms), amazing chassis and brakes, NA engine and manual gearbox. Plus it will be rare and hold value if you car about that.

“My parents live in a gated golf subdivision; Corvette, Porche, NSX, Ferrari, Ford GT, Bentley....all the drivers cut from the same cloth. The only guy I knew closer to my age had a twin-turbo Viper and an older Lotus.”

Found the “my parents are rich” anti-American a-hole. I drive a 2018 ZL1 Camaro...care to put me up against any of your parents geriatric neighbors...or even you perhaps?
