Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that spreads when people consume food or water contaminated with feces. The CDC says case counts typically rise in the spring and summer and considers May 1 through Aug. 31 the yearly “cyclosporiasis season.” Symptoms typically begin about a week after ingestion. They include frequent, watery — and sometimes explosive — diarrhea, stomach cramps, bloating, nausea, fatigue and a low-grade fever. In its latest national surveillance update, the CDC said it had received reports of 145 cases acquired in the United States from people who became sick May 1, 2026, through June 16, 2026. Of those patients with information available, 20 were hospitalized. No deaths were reported. The CDC notes the true number of infections may be higher because some people recover without seeking medical care and are never tested. As of June 16, 2026, 45 cases were among people who ate or drank food or water that made them sick while traveling outside the United States during the 14 days before they got sick, federal health officials said. The CDC says it monitors cyclosporiasis year-round to quickly detect outbreaks linked to a shared food source.

I’d probably get diarrhea just from the misery of living in Louisiana.

No big deal, everyone I work with claims to have IBS-D and calls in all the time for it already. This should be a piece of cake.

I think I had that illness about 2 years ago. Lived on the toilet for four days. Lost 12 pounds

Latest data is from June 18th, almost 2 weeks ago.

The parasite is usually found in topical or subtropical regions of the world though when detected in the U.S. it has been linked to various types of fresh produce.

At least 145 people across 17 states have been sickened in an outbreak of cyclosporiasis, prompting a federal investigation into the source of the infections as health officials warn that the true number of cases is likely higher.
New York has reported the highest number of cases, with between 31 and 80 infections of the intestinal illness. Cyclosporiasis is caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, which can trigger prolonged bouts of watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and fatigue.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the cases involve people who became ill between May 1 and June 16 after eating food in the United States.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is assisting with the investigation, but no specific source has been identified.

New York was the hardest-hit state as of June 18, the most recent day for which data is available. It accounts for the largest reported cluster with between 31 and 80 cases and is the only state with figures that high.

What a shitty situation. A shituation, if you will.

Explosive’ diarrhea
No surprise
Given the dietary habits of that state’s inhabitants.

Seems like vegetables are worse for getting you sick than meat. Meat you cook it off. Cyclospora is actually really hard to wash off vegetables.

Vegan?
This stuff comes from human feces on your vegetables.
