If the person recovers from their grave illness, it was because of the prayers.

I'd like for someone to tell me specifically how someone's situation is changed when you "send prayers." I mean, if enough "prayers" are sent, does the cancer get cured, or does the missing person get found? Does Jesus cure people based on how many prayers that person gets?

I had an interesting discussion one time with a guy who was a former pastor. He told me he was now mostly agnostic after having served time in prison. I was going through a rough spot in my life at the time, and what I remember most was at the end he said something to the effect that he was going to pray for me. In reaponse I told him thanks and that I would pray for him as well. He stopped me cold and said pleeease don't pray for me. My life is just how I want it. And if you go and start praying things will start to happen.... so please do not pray for me.
I'm not trying to convince you either way, just wanted to share this story because it was a shock to me that he said it and from the look on his face he meant it.

It's about faith and there is this whole power in belief. Studies even support the power of believing, whether you agree or not. Hope is also very strong in overcoming difficulties, possibly beating them.

I feel bad for people who don't know/understand the power of prayer. I've had ALOT of prayers answered for myself, and seen many others benefit from it

Wait, let me get this straight. So, because I don't share the same faith as some, you're automatically presuming I view myself as smarter than people who are religious?
No, actually, I don't view myself as smarter than others because they have faith. I view myself smarter than others, specifically you in this case, in that I don't make presumptuous, dipshit statements like yours.
Religion is not a litmus test for me in discerning people's mental acuity. There are certainly more viable metrics to discern that information.

That's great that things seem to have straighten out for you in whatever circumstance you felt you needed the power of prayer. Though, don't feel bad for me as I fall under your aforementioned category.
I prefer to "take action" in people's times of need, or in my own, by actually doing something tangible and not just opening my mouth and spewing words out into the universe for them to supposedly land onto some deity's ears and have him/her/it intervene.
