Experts sound the alarm on declining birth rates among younger generations: "Its a crisis"

New data is confirming a baby boom that some doctors expected was actually a "baby bust." Health departments in more than two dozen states provided records to CBS News, showing a 7% drop in births in December — nine months after the first lockdowns began.
Researchers say it continues a much bigger plunge in fertility in recent decades.
The number of babies the average woman in the U.S. is expected to deliver has dropped from nearly four in the 1950s to less than two today.
The drop could present an entirely different risk to society than one that was first warned about decades ago — when an apocalyptic fear gripped America in the 1960s and 1970s.

The U.S. is already below the so-called "replacement level" by some measures, meaning fewer young people to support the country's otherwise aging population.
Myers said of the decline, "That's a crisis."
"We need to have enough working-age people to carry the load of these seniors, who deserve their retirement, they deserve all their entitlements, and they're gonna live out another 30 years," he said. "Nobody in the history of the globe has had so many older people to deal with."
The coronavirus pandemic is also making the problem worse — despite what some people previously thought.
"We thought, oh, we would see a baby boom. But we just haven't seen it," said Dr. David Jaspan, chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.

Nothing that importing another ~30 million low-skilled third worlders can't fix.

Quick. Let's ban bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. That ought to help kids meet each other.
Also, let's gear every half baked government program to help the very poor with child care costs. As we know, raising children is never a massive cost if you aren't dirt poor. It's not like $1700/month in day care per child is of any concern for the middle class.

1. It’s expensive as frick to have kids.
2. Change divorce and child support laws.

Only people having kids are well off or future single parents
It shouldn’t be surprising that people aren’t getting knocked up during a pretty intense financial strain for a lot of people

Perhaps D.C. shouldn’t have played fast-and-loose with the funding for entitlements.
This pyramid scheme has to stop someday, I just hope that I can secure enough of a capital legacy for my children and grandchildren that they might be able to weather the absolute shite-storm that is the Great Depression 2.0 that is almost assuredly on the horizon.

Maybe they should dump birth control and abortion then.
Both of those have caused long term damage that makes people unable to conceive or requires a lot of expensive IVF or other costly procedures which may not work.

Trump pushed pretty hard for more family leave, which would have been HUGE for professionals that wanted kids. Basically the exact type of people we want to reproduce.
But it got shot down with quickness.
Support and assistance is geared to encourage the lowest common denominator to reproduce.

Middle class and well off people are having children, but they are waiting much longer because of the costs and the hit it will take on their professional lives.
We seriously need more family leave. 15-16 weeks minimum IMO for moms and dads.

They need more workers to fund their ponzi scheme known as pensions and social security.

My mom was telling me about this, primarily because my sister (age 27) is on her second round of IVF. She said she knows a ton of people with fertility issues and when she was younger it was never a problem.
I don’t have any interest in kids, but it’s a wild topic I was unaware of.

I cannot believe these people actually predicted a baby boom with the start of covid.
Hmm...mass layoffs and economic uncertainty coupled with ubiquitous, cheap birth control. Yep, totally sounds like a recipe for a baby boom.

Product of birth control? Wouldn't surprise me.

I thought we were supposed to stop having kids to save the climate.
