I'm a lender. 665 is far from horrible. I see much worse.

A freind of mine in state government started referring to it then as "wage slavery" where you make enough to survive but not enough to get ahead. You have the burden of debt over the security of savings.

The only debt I have is my mortgage. And I max out my 401k yearly.

I also have a myriad of other investments and six months of salary in savings.

Your comment of "wage slavery" is a choice. Just as it always has been.

It was built in 1975, and it is 2800 Sq/ft.

The Census chart I have up says in 1975 the average home sq. ft. was 1,645. In the South, it was 1,705.

For comparison, in 2010 (latest year that I see), the average was 2,392. In the South, it was 2,393.

You appear to have a larger than normal house.

Is this the average size of homes that are built that year? It can't possibly be the average size of a home in 2010, right?

I spend a lot of time in my house, baw.

Plus, this is America - it's not about "need" - it's about "want".

And there's nothing wrong with that. Unless your "wants" end up placing you in debt and you have no savings. Which are the people I have zero sympathy for.

It could be the average, but I doubt it's the median.

ETA - average new construction today is 2700 square feet, more than 1000 Sq feet more than 1973.

They've definitely gotten much larger on average. It was pretty common to have a family of 5 in a 1500 sq ft house when I was a kid.

Well, of course.

But isn't that one of the issues in this country? Keeping up with the Joneses?

I don't completely disagree with what you're saying, but i doesn't have much to do with credit being a scam. Having good credit makes buying a home and car more affordable, and CCs basically give you free money if you use it like a debit card. You have to adapt to the times.

Exactly.

Only someone who is economically retarded would claim credit is a scam. Lending is how the economy grows. It's how people start businesses.

Credit wasn't a "scam" when someone gave you money at a high interest rate. It was a transaction based on risk. The fact that you can't pay it back because you're irresponsible only serves to justify their initial assessment of risk.

Yup. And social media has only made the trend worse.
