My wife’s dumb arse cousin living in NYC is renting a car and driving her two kids 700 miles away to stay with her 70+ year old mother who is a smoker. Wife tried to convince her to shelter in place. I wonder how many other people are doing this? I understand how difficult it is with two young kids holed up in a 2 BR apartment without a yard to play in, but this could be a trend worth monitoring.

If quarantining is a good idea, what’s the downside of people doing this? Seems like they will be more spread out.

Probably not the worst idea to spread out concentrated population centers.

Nope! I would be getting the hell out of NYC myself. This is a case of smaller is better. I think it's a good call on her part.

they don't know if they're positive or not and may be spreading

quarantining is about making this assumption (that you're positive and will infect others)

I'd take my chances with the virus before being holed up with kids in a shithole NYC apartment.

My nephew left with his girlfriend to stay at a place she has in Connecticut. Working remotely and in a less populated area...probably a smart move.

So if her kids have the virus and don’t know it, they infect a whole new region of the country. I’m not asking about the safety of that family, I’m worried about the small city in a flyover state getting exposed.

Calling BS without pics.

If she’s so hot at that age, you should be proud to share them.

the fact that people, AT THIS POINT, can't understand this and respond to every scenario with the most me-first tunnelvision makes me sad

we're either that narcissistic or that dumb

Cities bad, bullets good is what the Walking Dead taught us.

I think in the O.P. leaving to an elderly persons house is not the best move though.

And Italy as well. News leaked early of the lock downs and people rushed to get out bringing the virus with them.

Are her kids going on a public speaking tour in the new, previously unsoiled region?
