have you done anything to it? programmer, studs, etc? The 6.0s have their problems but they're great engines once you get rid of all the problems. Its probably soot and some unburned fuel thats making it liquified. I wouldn't mess with that job with the cab on the truck personally.

Yes and yes.... full bulletproof about 7 years ago
This is what I thought myself....
Some people here apparently have had zero experience with diesels
As far as hearing it, climb under the cab of a running 6.0 and see if you can hear anything other than injectors clapping

Then yeah thats why. The programers dump fuel and plenty makes it into the exhaust. I don't think you want to mess with that with the cab on. You're almost guaranteed to break a stud or 2. I'm curious why it would be leaking though. Of all the issues i had with my old 05 and the others i've worked on i've never seen this issue. Does it look like any snapped?

Not that I can tell.... it almost looks like the headers warped. Like the mating surfaces shrunk and pulled away from the block. All the studs appear to still be there. Like I said I can see about a 1/16th of an inch or so clearance between the two

oof that blows. You can try reaching down with a wrench or a million extensions and swivels through the wheel well to tighten then but i give that a pretty low chance for success. But i would be prepared to bring it to a shop or to a buddy with a lift to take the cab off.

You still have your 05? This one has 230k on it and still feels solid

No, i sold it a while back for a 2011 6.7 because i needed 4wd and because . the programmer did some damage to the trans and i didn't feel like messing with it. Then i got a company truck and sold that one. Now i have an old beat up Tundra that won't die and the car in my avatar for fun. I repurposed the money from a nicer truck to the car.

I have an 08 F-150 with an exhaust leak due to crack in the exhaust manifold. But that's leaking exhaust, not oil. I also have an oil leak on the passenger side valve cover gasket. Are you sure thats not what you have going on as well? I have looked at fixing both but it doesn't seem worth it considering the value/age/condition of the truck

It’s not coming from valves covers it’s a tuned diesel that dumps fuel... it’s Unburnt fuel and soot
Posted on 11/14/19 at 7:13 pm to geauxcats10
Your valve covers are leaking oil, badly. That is not soot, fuel, fuel residue due to a "tuned" engine. Sounds as though you should do it if you do all your own work.

I disagree. In the video (which I was just able to watch) you can see pressure bubbles coming out of the mating face between the manifold and head. I was skeptical at first too, but I’ve seen that caked up oily soot on industrial engines before (old Detroit’s are notorious for blowing manifolds up).

I have a 2010 f150 with the same issue. It's apparently very common. Mine goes away once it heats up. frick spending 1500 on it! I will drive it until it dies

Yeah, looked at it again and it does look more like bubbles. I thought it was oil squirting out.
Could be oil leaks puddling around the manifold and the exhaust leak bubbling through the oil.

How is an exhaust manifold leak causing fluids to leak?
Posted on 11/14/19 at 7:59 pm to BHM
There could be an oil leak too, but i've seen that telltale pitch black gunk around diesel exhausts with leaks upstream of the turbo. The engines are tuned to dump fuel to help the turbo spool (thats essentially what the black smoke is). On these older non-common rail engines they can pump a significant amount of fuel in the exhaust. The oily diesel mixes with the soot and its just a black sludge with a lot of particulate in it. Unlike oil which is usually thinner and not as pitch black. Can't diagnose for sure without seeing it, but i wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't an oil leak. OP should definitely look fluid above the manifold thought to make sure there isn't;' anything while he has it opened up.
@OP, have you noticed a loss of boost? How much does it make WOT? Which programer and who's tune? With an exhaust leak there you should see a noticeable decrease i boost.

Can you hear an exhaust leak?
This
Depending how bad a leak you should be able to hear a ticking sound that follows the RPMs when reved up.
Replaced driver’s side on a ‘99 Ram 1500. Would pay someone if I ever needed to do that again.
If it’s a gasket, replace with a copper gasket. Seals better.
If DIY, PB Blaster is your friend.

Is this real life? Exhaust manifolds don't leak anything but exhaust fumes. You would hear an annoying clicking sound.
That looks like a valve cover leak.

Yes real life. Assuming exhaust gas is the only thing in the exhaust system assumes that you have a near complete fuel burn which many diesels do not have.
ETA there’s almost no chance you could here an exhaust leak tick over the racket a 6.0 makes at idle.
