Most teachers are practically martyrs (except for the female ones that "manipulate" their male students).

They work long hours to just get unjustly ridiculed by the OT all summer long...and for the week of fall break... and the two weeks during Christmas.

Some of these same teachers want to sacrifice one of their precious weekends off to bring your sugar daddy's grandson to educational Orange County, Florida and you are going to question their motive? SHAME ON YOU.

Ive seen that video 20 or some times and Im literally still invested all the way throughout the 3 minutes of the whole story. It’s such a well done story. Idk if it’s actually true or not (doesnt matter), but it’s like an incredible 3min sketch by a comedian. So whether it’s true or not, it’s entertaining.

When I was in school a field trip meant going to see how the local newspaper was printed or how the dairy made cheese. And we were damn glad to get those field trips!

7th grader is going to NYC next fall for $2,200, includes:

RT airfare
Hotel (2 nights in Philly, 2 in DC, and 2 in NYC)
Food
Tour bus
Smithsonian
...several other museums
1 guide for every 5 kids

We had a year to pay for it. The hotels and tour bus are both very nice.

My friend's son did a 2 week tour of Europe with his school last year. It was a very small group. I think 5 kids (12) with 3 chaperones/teachers.

However, he goes to some special small academy for really smart kids of wealthy parents.

Yea, no shite.

My mom would bitch about having to pay $10 or $20 back in the 80s and 90s to go to field trips like the Washington Parish Fair.

All of the public school kids did this when I was a kid, but the farthest we went at my catholic school was New Orleans. I remember the neighbor girl going to DC in like 3rd grade.

sive field trip request? Does your school do this?
I don't know the school (it's public) but my bf got a call that one of the grandson's has a field trip coming up and he wanted his pawpaw to help pay for it. So pawpaw says he will help.

Turns out it is a "field trip" that will cost about $1000 and will be about a week in length. They are going to Florida to Disney and such. The kids are about 10-12. they are going in the spring but need to start collecting downpayments and such now.

WTF? Is this a normal thing? It's not related to a club, sport or any other educational event.

Anyone else had their school do this?

Welcome to 2018. I paid $1800 last year for my 7th grader to go to DC for a week and this year they asked if I wanted to pay $9600 for a trip to the Gallapagos islands for her. I did not. Oh and it is a so-called public school.

Our middle school offers a Disney trip but I don't really consider it a "field trip". It isn't anything arranged by the school for education, it's just a group trip from a travel company marketed to the school. The group of kids who end up going is usually very small.

This is actually the truth. It may be being organized by the school but it isn't a field trip. They arent required and It is done during holidays so the kids don't miss class. Truth be told this isn't a case of the schools asking to much,(more than likely something like this was offered to all of us when we were in school) but more of a parent not knowing how to say NO problem. Our kids will believe or not manipulate us and say everyone is going and blah blah blah when all you have to do is be able to tell your little kid no.
