Don't do a damn thing unless the IRS contacts you personally. Direct any communication from your ex wife to your attorney.

We have nothing together. The house mortgage was owned by my grandmother and as soon as she broke the agreement, late payments and didn’t pay the taxes, my grandmother took it back and sold it.
So... wait... I'm a little confused. The mortgage was in your grandmother's name but your ex somehow got the house or in the midst of you getting a divorce your grandmother booted you out of your house b/c you couldn't make the payments by yourself?

Well you should tell her to kick rocks. Let her and her current husband figure it out.
This is a shining example of how Petty and stupid women can be.

If I were the OP, I'd contact the IRS right away and see if there is anything on his account that is owed. Letters and notices get lost in the mail all the time.
Alternatively, if I was the OP, I'd ask the ex for copies of the letters / notices she got, to determine if he is legally on the hook. He may be. He may not be.

So the two of you were split up in 2014 when the tax refund came in and she kept it for herself? Six years later, she comes to you to ask if you will help her pay because she was audited? Both of you are remarried.
I'd tell that bitch to pound sand and don't answer any of her calls and avoid any type of communication with her as much as possible.
Did you have kids with her? If not that is great. If so, then I assume you have to have some type of communication with her and if that is the case, just go about it like you normally do. If she brings it up just tell her you are not going to pay for her tax problems and for her to stop asking because it will not do any good.

Yall are missing the informative posts in this thread. If they filed jointly, they are both on the hook for that year. The IRS doesn't know and doesn't care who got the refund. He can ignore it, but if she doesn't pay they'll go looking for him

quote:Tell her you aren't even discussing anything with her until you get your half of the refund she got in 2014.
Because she filed our taxes in2014 and we split right before it kept the refund and is now asking me to pay because she was audited.
quote:Then tell her you aren't paying anything until she pays back your parents for the $10k
Update... so she was getting rent from a place I owned, not paying the mortgage and then not claiming it when she filed. My parents had to pay 10 grand to keep it out of foreclosure
