Heard a snippet of a news promo on the radio this morning where they said that millennials regard the use of the ellipsis by older people in texts and email as the height of passive aggressiveness.
So I Googled and found:
Why… do old people… text… like this…? An investigation…
I guess if you're looking to get triggered, assigning aggression to common punctuation is one way to go...

A two-dot ellipsis (..), in millennial English means "continue," or "please elaborate." And, a three-dot ellipsis denotes an "awkward or annoyed silence," or "are you serious?"
Using the comma-ellipsis to write ‘ok,,’ or ‘you sure,,,’ can convey "insecurity or uneasiness," according to Fonteyn. While a three-dot ellipsis might be employed to convey intense annoyance, the comma-ellipsis indicates a "different type of intensity," of annoyance or unsureness.

Yeah, I have had to read shite for years that younger generations try to pass off as "writing."
It'll be a cold day in hell when I start taking advice from them regarding punctuation and grammar.

The article isn't wrong. I married a millennial. My mother overuses ellipsis' every single day. It annoys the shite out of my wife.

If news sites can use Tigerdroppings as a source... I can use NPR and Mashable.

Yep. It's actually led to arguments in our workplace because the older generation will constantly use it in emails asking for documentation from the younger generation.

Note to self. Use them more often and annoy the shite out of millennials.

My favorite is, "Even if it's obvious sarcasm, you should include a smile emoji."
