Free range kids continued well past the early 80s.

Waco, Ruby Ridge, Columbine, OKC bombing, LA race riots from Rodney king, OJ Simpson. All that shite sucked donkey balls

Honestly, Bill Clinton killed small town USA.

NAFTA and adding China to the WTO just butt-fricked us all.
Textiles and lumber disappeared quickly and started the death.
Walmart showed up everywhere and put the final bullet in the head.

Small town squares and stores died. Families that had lived there for generations left or had their kids move away. Towns were bypassed.

Drugs and crime became an issue in towns where doors were never locked before that. Where your favorite toy store or clothing shop once stood, social services and wig shops came in their place.

But other than that, it was great. Tecmo Bowl!

No cell phones. Maybe one parent had 1. But then parents started buying kids beepers and you had 10-15 minutes to get to a land line to call them back.

My father in law owned a textile mill. Nafta killed them. Went from 400-500+ employees to closed by the start of the 2000's.

When they ended. The 90's were awesome. Was the last real era before people became enslaved by social media and cell phones.

Hell, we balanced the budget in the 90's. That'll never happen again.

The 90s were my HS and LSU days so I have very fond memories. Most of the world problems didn't concern me at that time.

The 80s were my childhood and young adolescence. Not a terrible draw in life.
