The convenience store I visit, and the McDonalds drive thru all had signs wanting my extra coins - they would "buy" it. If it were just one, it would not cause me to ask, but I have not seen that before from two distinct businesses. Any intel? Is this Covid related - I would think not.

The Federal Reserve issued a statement to banks that coin allocations to banks, credit unions and other depository institutions will be reduced by 40 percent for the time being. The shortage, the statement said, is due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with mints closed and with stay-at-home orders reducing the amount of cash flowing in the country.

With the massive rise in credit card and debit card and mobile pay usage and inflation coins are basically worthless. Now with covid less people are buying with cash and in person.

So people have jars and bottles of coins in their cars and homes they're too lazy and uncaring to turn in so there's a national coin shortage because no one cares about change anymore.

The McDonalds I stop at for coffee, just about every weekday, has started a round up policy to the whole dollar. Supposedly the extra goes to Ronald McDonald House. I don't mind because my coffee and biscuit is $2.82 but I don't think they ever round down.

I wasn't aware people used change for anything other than machines.

Yall actually dig coins out of your pocket and give them to people? That is WILD.

Tell them to check with the Orange Beach toll booth that charges $2.75 per car. They got quarters.

If everyone would just round up or down we could end our dependence on coins all together.

I keep a crown royal bag of quarters in the console to use for washing my boat, other than that, it all goes in a big jar and into my daughter's savings account when it gets to be enough. #privileged

guess I will start digging in my pocket book for my lil money.

Instead of handing them $10 on pump # 3 I will give them $9.97.

I have two options... roll it and bring it to a bank or go to coinstar and pay 12%. I usually just say frick it and let it build up until there is a couple hundred dollars. Back when the capital 1 (hibernia) downtown used to have a free coin machine, I used it all the time. But it's not worth my time to either roll it or pay 12%. the only reason I do it now is to put a few bucks in my kids' savings account.

You can get an Amazon gift card from Coinstar and there is no 12% fee, unless that has changed recently.

So... if it's $10.04, then it magically becomes $11? Don't like that.

Would spike inflation, you say? Are you keeping up with the price of groceries lately? I love to grill lamb steaks, you know those little strips of lamb, usually three or four to a pack. Bout three months ago I was paying about $ 12 and some change for a pack. Checked the price today at Kroger's..........$ 17.64 a pack. Guess I shouldn't complain.....at least I can still get'um.

Welcome to the world of Covid-19 induced hyperinflation, pilgrim.
