exactly what I would think. A katana is for slicing and would not do well against metal armor

Ahh but there are Chinks in the armor. It looked like the samurai was about to pull his blade through the knights armpit which likely would have been fatal.

Deadliest Warrior on Spike did this sort of thing 15 years ago. If anyone remembers, it was highly entertaining.

That was a great show at the time.

I would have liked to have seen a tournament style result from all the data. To determine the DWOAT.

All things being equal, it would be real interesting to see how the strength of an OG knight would stack up against a SEAL or Force Recon marine of today. I bet those frickers had some Wisconsin Farm boy strength. Grip strength alone was probably off the charts but something tells me their fighting cardio might actually be better than a SEAL today.

Overall brute strength I would definitely concede to the OG knight, but a SEAL isn't going to take a giant head on. There's no tactical advantage.

Can't live in your armor and you gotta sleep at some point.

But that's what was so cool about that show was they would pair those two against each other and determine a victor.

The chink was wearing the samurai getup.

That was even cooler. Amazing how we have these stylized, drawn out blade battles in our heads, when the reality was much "get in close enough that the blades don't matter and bash each other to death."

Samurai was later quoted saying, "That computer must have been made in England."

Nothing is more overrated than Asian fighting prowess; either hand to hand or with weapons. You have fanboys who are convinced ninjas and samurai (and, let's be honest, 90% of posters don't know the difference) could single handedly wipe out Patton's 3rd Army. Look no further than how fanboys treat Bruce Lee. He had almost zero tournament experience. Certainly nothing notable at all. Yet, Bruce Lee fanatics are convinced that he was the deadliest unarmed fighter in existence. He was fit and could make a lot of flashy moves on camera. That's pretty much it.

Same with samurai and their katanas. There are those convinced the samurai swords have more penetrating power than an A-10s depleted uranium rounds; that if you dropped on edge down it would slice straight to the Earth's core.

The shield evolves to beat the shield. With Japan, and their isolation, it didn't evolve much. It was designed to be equitable with other Japanese warriors, and stayed so.

While Euro-Slavic-Turkic armies were constantly warring/evolving to beat each other, in this endless Game of rock paper scissors.

Japan's isolation is what ultimately defeated it. Had they embraced gunpowder instead of tradition, they may have fared better when other powers came calling.

The shift from heavily trained, expensive tanks to a mass of cheap, easily armed and trained rabble caused a huge shift in what pieces mattered in war.

People now are so much more advanced and we have gotten larger.

A top tier marine would toss around dudes from that far back without any issue. People back then didn’t even have the proper nutrition to compete with the top tier humans now.

Just my 2 cents.

My opinion of Samurai has diminished after watching the videos. Destroyed by an OG Knight and then a Viking. Now thinking Samurai couldn’t go 1 minute with a Comanche warrior. Samurai soft AF.
