About 8 months ago a family friend ask me if I could help get his son a job at our plant as a E&I. I've always known the kid and he has always been a great kid. So I go talk to the maintenance optimizer at our plant who is a fishing buddy of mine about this kid. I tell him he comes from a good family, never been in trouble, just graduated from the E&I program and needs to get his foot in the door.

Well they hire him a month or so later as a entry level E&I making about $25 a hour, in a year he would be making around $30 and two years around $38 a hour. Not bad for a 20 year old kid starting out. Well I find out yesterday that him and a few others got picked for a random drug test last Wednesday and he was let go yesterday. I haven't heard from his father yet so I doubt he's even told them. I'm F'n mad and also embarrassed that I was the one vouching for the kid. Makes me and the Optimizer who hired him look like shite.

tldr: Vouched for a friends son that pissed out on a drug test 7 months later

The hiring of the individual as described isn't nepotism.

Never vouch for anyone or otherwise do anything to help anyone get a job. Never goes well. I have learned and forgotten and learned again a few times.

Used to work at Best Buy and if you got someone hired and they lasted 90 days, you got $100 on your paycheck. Nothing major but still nice, anyway got my friend on and he quit at 87 days, what kills me is that he had two off days before his 90th day so I only needed him to work one more shift to get my money. No two weeks notice or anything, he just up and quit because of his dumb psycho gf.

Not really, you can't be responsible for his every decision.

I helped an out of work former co worker get on as a contractor. Dude ended up being a pain in the arse to everyone he worked with including me and was let go.
I've had several instances where I've recommend people and it's worked out, but this last situation makes me not want to do it anymore

Except that it is the exact definition of nepotism.

Got my cousin an interview at my old job as a shop hand. he told them in the interview that being an assembly hand was beneath him and that he needs to be in sales, but he was willing to "tough it out" for a few months until they "saw what he is capable of"

He used me as a reference. The supervisor personally came to thank me for wasting his time with this idiot. At least he didn't get the job and frick it up later. minimal impact.

This was before everyone in my family knew how much of a frickup he was.

How did he perform for those 7 months?

I don't think you'd look bad if someone lasted 7 months. At some point I think you're off the hook for recommending them.

Yes, we had an opening, and this guy had the experience for the job, so no need to train anyone.

He came in, worked for 2 weeks, then while were ready to start working our 2 weeks on, 1 off dealio, he fricking quits. Zero reasons, wouldn't return calls.

I knew a shite load of Millennials who got hired at Chrysler, because of buddies or parents, and over 2K of them failed the piss test. LOL.

I learned my lesson many years ago about this.

However, for the last about 6 months, I've been pressured to "get" a job for an acquaintance of my family. It is common knowledge that he's been fired from his last FIVE jobs in 2 years, twice for not showing up and 3 times for multiple drug testing violations.....And it isn't just weed.

I told him, to his face, that I was not that stupid.

When I was in college I waited tables. One day a girl came in for an interview that I had worked with at a previous restaurant. She saw me when she was leaving and told me to "put in a good word for her". I told the hiring manager that she was filled with drama and a terrible server. No ragerts.

The OP didn't hire him. Nor is he friends with, or related to, the failed hire.
