What is the history on those guns? They must have belonged to someone of historical significance to be worth $10,000. Are they 7th Calvary issued models?

Got it when i was 30 and spent it on stupid shite.

Did pay for quite a bit of sex. It was actually a massive eye opener as to how many normal everyday women will gladly frick you for money. I’m talking legit tell them, come to the beach with me this weekend, your whole trip is free, i will even pay for you to get new bathing suits and you treat the weekend as a girl friend experience. I never once got told no. A free beach trip with new bathing suits and women will frick you everytime

When my grandparents died I got my section of the family land. It’s been in the family since 1854. I built a house on it and live there now. That’s about it.

Yes, I received one a few years ago from my uncle (no kids, no spouse). Gave some to a couple family members, some of his close friends, took a vacation and did some back yard home improvements (1900 sq ft of pavers, 18x24 pavilion, fire pit, etc). Thankful for it all the time.

Another 160K cash plus 33 acres of land and a house worth 170K is in succession right now

There was inheritance I was supposed to receive, but though unethical means a family member was able to gain access to it before that person passed away because they thought Stanford Financial Group was going to make them a lot of money.

Im still bitter towards them today. Its not so much about the money as it is the way they gained access to it and thought that some jackass "with strong conservative values" was able to give them a higher percentage on their return than companies who have been doing it for a very long time (AKA they got greedy).
Please out them here so I can send them a gift basket as a thank you.

OP: I got some cash (around $20k-ish) and a house to live in for a while, and repair & renovate. Then I sold it and split the proceeds with my siblings. I deducted from my share the value of me staying there.

Mrs Füt (no pics) will do better when her last remaining parent passes, probably around $200k or more.

Is your FIL my FIL?

Every time I see him (few times a year) he discusses money. Makes me uncomfortable

Since I handle my dads expenses since Mom passed (he had a major stroke 20-+ years ago) I know it down to the penny yet he wants to sit me down and go over it.

I think it’s a generational thing and although I know where it all is and how to dive it up when he passes, it makes me uncomfortable to think of his mortality.

Old, rare guns in great shape. COllectors pay top dollar for a lot of them. Most of them are extremely low, matching serial numbers. All shootable, tight cylinders, etc.

You must not know the market well. If they were "famous owned" and it was provable the value would be closer to six figures.

I will give you an example:

A circa 1875 Colt SAA 1st generation. Good mechanical condition, w/ letter and matching serial numbers. Its value is around $22k.

There is another he has that has only 3 numbers in its serial number.

To give you a better idea of the age of that one, the 7th Calvary's serial numbers were generally 3,200 to 3,600.

Think you’ll hold on to them? Or sell?

My mom and step dad are worth millions. I’m an only child and my step dad has no family left alive. The inheritance isn’t going to be worth it.

Probably hold on to them for the most part. There are some I will definitely never sell as they mean too much. Others? Who knows.

I am not looking at them as "oh I can't wait to get my hands on them and sell them" though.

That’s why I asked if they were special or run of the mill. A regular Colt Single Action from the 1800’s can be bought for a few thousand dollars. Just participated in an auction that had several.

They had a 7th Calvary model that brought $10,000

They also had a shotgun that was recovered from the backseat of the car Bonnie and Clyde were killed in. It brought $57,000

My Mom won the inheritance lottery. She was an heir to a distance cousin's estate who she had never met and he happened to be gay with had no children or siblings (before same sex marriage became legal). When he died in the mid 90s - Mom, her sister and another cousin split almost $3M. My Mom who was a struggling divorced school teacher, retired early, paid off her house, and bought herself a brand new car. She was bored in retirement and blew a lot of it on shopping but, she had a grand time doing it and spoiled my kid. When she died a few years ago my brother, daughter and I got what was left. So grateful she got to enjoy life in her later years. A lot of it was spent on her late life care but, we ended up with some. How lucky was that?

Only two times I’ve inherited anything were both during times where I just needed it to get ahead on some debt. Actually, neither time was a direct inheritance.

1st time was 10k from a great aunt. She died and didn’t have any kids, but did have a paid for ~200 head cattle farm.. My grandmother inherited her estate, sold the herd, then sold the land for about 850k, pocketed about 750k, then split 50k amongst her two daughters(my mom and aunt), then split 50k amongst us 5 grandchildren.

The other time, my mom is adopted and her birth mother died without any family or a will, so it all went to my mom… She was like gypsy flea market person and had just piles of junk and a house. I think my mom made out with about 100k after settling the estate and gave me and my brother 5k each.
