Was probably one of scariest events in my life. It was so wet, there was nothing I could do for the 5 second ride through the mud watching myself go sideways into oncoming 60mph traffic. Hit one car, but was able to drive mine home. Other car had to be towed, but nobody hurt.
In true Texas fashion, not a single person stopped to check on us. Police did even show up. Just shared a cigarette with the lady I hit and waited on the tow truck for her car.
Holy shite, man. Glad you survived. But that’s Dallas, not Texas. Outside the big city people usually stop.

I’m from Mobile so I have no experience with snow and ice. I was living in Huntsville and thought I could manage to get to work after a bit of snow. I hit ice on the interstate onramp and spun my truck around. No damage and I learned a lesson.

Rain? No. Snow and Ice? Yes too many to count including a good friend who was killed by Aspen on I70 when his truck rolled coming back form an elk hunt. He was strangled by his seat belt.

I remember when I was about twelve, I saw a little sports car hydoplane and wipe out. It was raining buckets and the guy was just hauling arse. It was under the railroad bridge that crosses over Bluebonnet near Jimmy's place when he lost control. Found out later in the paper the guy died at the hospital.

I was about 3 car lengths behind a Sequoia that rolled about 3 times going about 80 on I65. Dude in the car beside him was looking at his phone and just slowly eased into the Pathfinder's lane, clipping his right rear end, causing the flip. I was scared what I was about to see when I ran up to the vehicle, but as soon as I got to it, dude popped his up over the top of the car like a prairie dog. Just had a scratch on his arm. My wife's next car will be a Toyota.

All the rain and people driving like idiots reminds me of something I experienced on the way back home from college several years ago.
Somewhere in between Nacogdoches and college station, it was raining super hard and I was doing 45 down a 2 lane state hwy which is normally 70.
Ol baw in a 3/4 ton floors it around me, starts to hydroplane, loses control and flips his truck. I pull over and hop out to check on him, he’s stuck. I break his window, cut his belt, help him out and call 9/11.
As we’re sitting there, he slowly begins to process what happened. He looks over at me and says “why the hell were you going so slow? That’s why I wrecked trying to get around you!” I just said, now you see why I was going slow, and btw you’re welcome for saving your life.
That's nothing bro. One time I was driving home in a storm and a tornado picked the minivan in front of me up and dumped it straight in the river (we were on a bridge when this happened)
There was no time to spare so I just slowed down a little and rolled out of my truck while it was still moving and dove over the side of the bridge to pull 3 kids , a mom, and a dog from the minivan.
The police didn't even bother showing up, so sorry I can't provide proof that this happened.

About year ago was driving back home from Slidell at around 1 am. It was one of those rains where its coming down so hard you cant see but few feet infront of you. I was chugging along at around 50mph when some guy FLIES past me. He must have been doing at least 90. I just remember thinking that guy is gonna kill someone.

Holy shite! What was the aftermath? Did the other guy stop or did they ever find him?

He had no choice in the matter. His car was in rough shape too. We left after we gave our statement to the trooper.

It's not like the OP's story is over the top heroic. What's so unbelievable about having to bust a window and help someone out of a wrecked car?

It's cliche to say, but it felt like I was in slow motion watching the wreck.
I got back in the car and it was silent for a few seconds, then my daughter in the back seat said, "Daddy said a bad word". I was like, "that's what you're going to remember from this?"

My dad was driving his F-250 from BR to NO a couple years ago. Lots of rain and got in the right lane and slowed down a little. 18-wheeler flies by in the left with a huge gust and we started to hydroplane. Crossed the interstate (before cables) and hit the rear axle of a tanker truck. Hit it so hard it broke the rear axle, broke the seal on the tank (luckily just emptied, so just a little in it), and made the truck do 3 full spins back into the middle.
Called 911 and the operator couldn't believe we were the passengers. The 18-wheeler driver called and said they would not get out because of how afraid they were with what we would look like.
Survived with just bruises and pulled muscles. Anything smaller than a F-250 and we would have been a ramp for the tanker and not hit it squarely.
