Thinking about doing one next summer in New England on an organic farm. Small room and board fee helps farm owners make ends meet. You work 4 to 6 hours a day and learn a lot.

I usually grow 2 to 3 acres of garden so the work would be pretty easy for me. Thought I might pick up a little knowledge and new ideas, meet some cool people, hang out in New England for a month.

You have to interview for this particular location and be chosen to attend. Evidently, they screen applicants thoroughly.

Anyone ever done this? Sounds interesting.

Oh, frick that.

I have no issues hoping on my laptop while on vacation and knocking out some emails, but I'm not farming for 6 hours a day and calling that a vacation.

I've worked during my last 3-4 vacations.

I know that's not what you meant. No, I would not be interested in something like that.

I practically live in my garden.

Great, so that's your hobby.

But are you going to go on vacation and garden 6 hours of the day while on it?

I want to do one, they have a program where I can go into a foreign country and learn how they do their teaching, lesson planning, programs, etc.... Everything is 100% paid for and I get a small pay check but it is extremely hard to get into.

these folks have done some of that in the past as well...they provided room and board and also give you a little cash each month....

I can see it being a good thing if you love doing the type of thing you'd be doing, like gardening in your example.

If it's a hobby you're passionate about, I could see it like a golf vacation for someone who loves golf, with the added bonus of getting paid.

the one I'm interested in, the wages are basically subtracted from the room and board - the facilities look really nice

like I said, you have to hand picked to attend

No, I'm single but been to Destin a lot.

Cool thing about this type of vacation is the applicants are hand picked so you're most likely not going to be spending time with touristy idiots.
