Thinking about taking a vacation somewhere over the long Thanksgiving weekend, but would be by myself. 4-5 days. Suggestions?

I basically turned a work conference in DC into a vacation, and I was by myself. I had a good time.

What are you in to? I travel solo all the time. The vast majority of my friends have families now or are broke.

I hear that Syria and Iraq are beautiful this time of year.

Great place to roll solo. The metro will get you around very easily and plenty to see. The winter is a good time to visit because of less crowds in the museum and the ice usually doesn't hit till late December.

I have always wanted to do this myself. I have been to the smokies many times and that would be ideal by yourself now that I think about it

That's basically my situation. All friends have families, etc and the ones that don't just want to go out and drink all the time which I can do that at home.

Thinking about going to DC and seeing historical sites or maybe taking a cruise and just relaxing.

I'm in the same boat as you right now. I may go visit my friend up in DC again and hit a few sites that I didn't get to go to. I highly recommend the Sofitel right by the White House. A bit more but well worth it. Keep in mind that you can save a lot of money if you are by a Metro entrance. They have an app that tells you which car to jump on and which stops to get off if you have to transfer. You also can get a SMART card which lets you get on with just a wave of the card over the reader.

i extend business trips by a few days pretty regularly to see some sights. So far have done london, rome, japan, hong kong, taipei, madrid, and a ton of US cities.

The longest I have done was rome for 3 days, I didn't really have that much fun but that was b.c I chose a shitty cheap place to stay.

i would make sure you have a structured way to meet people as it can get lonely being by yourself. its pretty easy to do, just go to bars or social events where there will be other single travelers. hostels are good, if you aren't too old.

Wish I had known about that app before I flew into Reagan Took me a little while to figure everything out the first time.

That's my situation. I end up taking a lot of solo vacations because I may have a friend or two that wants to go but their wife doesn't so they end up not going. They usually are pretty relaxing for me, which is what I shoot for. You can do what you want when you want.

I do vegas solo and with buddies 3-5 times a year.

Can't say I enjoy one more than the other either.

Did a few times in early 2000's before I got married. Miami and Vegas, back when I enjoyed gambling and blow.

Good times.

I spent the last 3 days of a fishing trip in key west by myself. It was probably the most relaxing trip I've ever been on. I moseyed around town and hung out with the locals. I had a blast.

I solo vacation all the time, my wife hates riding motorcycles and my riding buddies always puss out because of money or some shite, so I end up on trips by myself.

Solo gives you an opportunity to pick your schedule and do things you wouldn't normally do because you don't have to worry about pleasing others. I tend to meet a lot more random strangers just to share a quick chat and such too.

It's a good time and recommend it to anyone.
