For people not familiar with Blind lingo, the equity award (RSUs) usually vests over 4 years. For example of you get a 200K equity grant when you join, it means 50K of RSUs vest every year over a 4 year period. But you also get stock refreshes every year as part of your annual performance review, so that 3rd and 4th year Total Compensation (TC) can get very high if you stick around for 4 years. No wonder the Bay Area home prices are what they are.

ETA: This one is my favorite. This guy is just 8 months out of college and into his professional career and he is complaining about his yearly compensation being 'only' $185K.

You paid a half a million for 2400 sq ft and you’re 45 mins from the closest city?

That's great, but where do you work? How is your daily commute? Do you drive or take the BART? Does BART even go out that far east? People who tend to buy homes within the Bay Area and who are forced to pay exorbitant prices usually do to keep their daily commutes times somewhat reasonable.

For the Facebook offer, the base pay is decent but adjusting for cost of living you could get a similar gig in a city like Houston or Dallas. The $220k offer is worth about $125k in Houston. Though that sign in bonus and stock award is pretty darn good. I've never seen anything close to that in my 10 years in Houston. Salary alone wouldn't get me to move but that benefit package looks damn good.

The stupidity of this thread.

Do you have any idea what it costs to live in SF?

I say this because my 31 year old sister lives there and makes great money...for anywhere other than SF. She's slightly above average there.

I'd grab that in a heartbeat if it was in Fairfax County. We have to drive another 20 miles out to touch that and we're already in western Fairfax County.

LOL not that bad but yeah...my friend makes that much over there and is broke AF.

Also, you have to pay taxes on those option benefits, so, do the math.

It’s amazing what $300k a year gets you in LA versus NYC, LA, or the Bay.

You’re practically lower upper class here and lower middle class there.
