I could not listen to his voice. It’s not good for public speaking.

I saw Tony preach at Texas Stadium about 30 years ago. I’ve read some of his books and listened to a lot of sermons.

Adrian Rogers was the best preacher I’ve ever heard. Hands down. No equal. Head and shoulders above the rest.

Tony Evans was next as far as a delivering a message.

Billy Graham was a great evangelist, but he wasn’t an every Sunday preacher or teacher on series of topics.

I pray for Tony and the church he leads. They will be shaken when such a great leader steps down.

I am asuming he banged a church worker when he started out, was young, horny, and poor.

Now that he has cash, she showed up and wants to get paid.

He has enough to retire on, but not if he gives it away to every bus-stop skank he took to Pound town.

His new 2nd wife has an honorary doctorate and she calls herself Dr. Carla Evans? She has one of those Jill Biden doctorates? What’s with these women?
quote:

Her academic journey began at Michigan State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Building on her passion for early childhood education, Carla pursued a Master’s degree from Cambridge College in the same field. Recognizing her significant contributions, she was later granted an Honorary Doctorate from the Denver Institute of Urban Studies.

This is easily true. As a preacher, he has no equal. In ANY denomination.

Also, arguably, true. A few others come to mind, but Tony Evans is right there at the top. Voddie Baucham is as well.

Very saddened to hear this news... and I respect his decision. Doesn't mean I don't wonder what he did, though.

Good thing Paul didn’t have to step as a spreader of Christ’s message, because of his past. Why do we do this as a society?
Paul's past was before he was converted and Paul was not an official church leader. that part matters a lot. church leaders who commit certain sins are disqualified as church leaders. it's a serious matter to God.

One is never disqualified from spreading the gospel of Christ, though. In case you are oblivious, Paul was a missionary. no disqualifications for that role except one needs to be a follower of Christ.

A lot of judgemental, weak posts in this thread.

Yours isn't one.

It's almost as if people commenting have never read the Bible and aren't aware of the history about David, Noah, and Moses, etc.
But that couldn't be the case.

Could it?

It would be hard to top the sins of the rural Ponchatoula churchgoers a few decades back.

Sin is all equal to God.

Different worldly consequences, of course, but to God, a sin is a sin.

I'm sure many won't get past that he's a dynamic black pastor of a large black church who dresses in a certain manner and has a wife on staff who calls herself Dr...

But, anyone who investigates Evans or his church will see that it's not the typical. It's a mostly little-o orthodox Christian church that is Gospel-oriented and not prosperity gospel or overly theatrical. That said, I think any big church centered around a single big personality, regardless how wholesome or correctly focused, has a greater risk of issues like this. Evans strikes me as someone who would probably acknowledge that and the inherent risk being in a position of lessened accountability for decades (and probably tried to guard against said issues).
