Essence Fest has become ungovernable.

It midnight Friday during the 2025 Essence Festival of Culture in the Caesars Superdome, hitmaking R&B producer, songwriter and singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds confessed that he was "tired as hell.”

He wasn’t nearly as tired as the handful of hearty souls who stuck around to see both Maxwell and Lauryn Hill after him.

It was nearly 4 a.m. Saturday morning when Hill, who was quietly added to an already overstuffed opening night lineup just two days prior, finished her show
.

By then, the Superdome – which was never more than half full at any point Friday – was essentially empty.

It ranked as one of the latest nights in the 31-year history of Essence Fest. And unlike two infamously late Essence evenings years ago, this one wasn’t Maxwell’s or Hill’s fault – at least not entirely.

Ok, yal had yal fun slam dunking on black folks. The real reason the Essence attendance is down this year is due to its selling to an African owner a few years back. This African owner is aggressively promoting African culture over Black American culture (jollof rice vs jambalaya competition) at a time where FBA (Foundational Black Americans) has become a strong bloc. FBA are pro American and pro black.

Lauryn Hill closed 2025 Essence Fest's first night at 3:37 a.m

The entire night ran behind schedule...

Being on time isn't part of the cultcha.

What time zone were they running this festival on?

If your whole gimmick is relying on the blacks to support your business, then you is in be for a rude awakening. Only thing that can survive is those black beauty quang stores with the weaves.

As much as it’s fun to see these events fail because of its political ties, it’s a huge moneymaker for the city and not a good sign.

Strait Fest >>>>> Bayou Country

Was reading Nola this morning. Seems like Essence has lost Will Sutton.

If I were Essence, I’d make it smaller. They’ve got events going on at the dome, hotels and the convention center. That’s a lot of shite to be concerned about. Make it smaller and confine all your talent in less space.

I’m about to head downtown to sweat it out.

Essence is a million times better than a bunch of racist rednecks in the city in July.

That felt so good to type, didn’t it? A warm fuzzy feeling washing over you as you show all of us your virtue.

I'd rather have an air conditioner festival that weekend along with the next 10 in Louisiana.

I was in the quarter yesterday mid afternoon/ evening and felt perfectly safe. Was not crowded at all. In fact it felt like a nothing weekend, maybe even more sparsely crowded.

She was supposed to br smart and know the business side of racing.

Alienating Jr and letting him go was the blunder of all time.

She showed 'em who was boss, so congrats, I guess.
