Living west is probably easier for access that going farther north. Grapevine is awesome. Growing like crazy. Really good schools. Tons to do for the kids. Worth checking out. Straight shot to downtown D.
Southlake and colleyville are good too, just further away.

DART is not a bad transit system comparably. But itsurely isn't extensive enough. Granted I haven't spent any time in Dallas in 2 years and they do build shite fast, but DART could use several more lines and stops. I have no idea why the people of Dallas would rather expand the freeways to sit more cars in traffic instead of expanding DART to be world class and using it.

Got it. Can you talk to your colleagues in Dallas and see where they live? I know this sounds dumb but for networking purposes most of the individuals involved in deploying private capital (e.g., private equity, family offices, etc.) live in:
Park cities
M streets
Lakewood
Preston hollow
Turtle creek
There are actually a decent amount of firms in south lake and trophy club but that’s far if going to the crescent.

Great place. Great cost of living. A lot to do.
Congrats on escaping Houston, as well.

Not sure of his situation, but I'm willing to bet Preston Hollow is likely not an option.

How is the train system? Reliable? Super crowded?
It's a train so it's not a car ride, crowded at times, bad weather sucks, transient people etc etc etc It's public transportation but you can read and zone out for 20-30 minutes before you get to your car.
I liked it more than I liked driving and parking downtown, my company paid for it.

but prepare for a helluva toll bill going to work and back
THIS THIS THIS THIS
I pay roughly 100 a month in tolls.
Hidden cost there when you move.
Btw, unless you wanna drive with the plebs on 75, the only other way to get anywhere fast in the burbs is on a tollway.

Moved from Bloomington Il to DFW in June of 2018. It depends on where you work for commuting purposes. There are great areas all over DFW to live with a family. Welcome to Texas.
We lived North in Sherman for 22 years and were thrilled to get a second shot at Texas living. You will love it!

Any tips from area residents would be extremely helpful
Dont spread the lib to Texas. Leave it in Chicago. You have to disinfect carefully, it is a stubborn malignant virus.

If Dallas is amazing I can only imagine what people think of Austin and the hill country which to me has way more outdoor activities than Dallas
