I'm 29 years old and I'm upset. She's in formation and shouldn't be texting on her phone. This is an example of what not to do while serving in the armed forces.

I'm a little late to this thread and I'm usually the last person to defend a female cadet. BUT everyone in this thread is making a huge mountain over a mole hill.
I am also showing up late to this thread. It appears you are the first Service Academy graduate to post on this and certainly the first to post some intelligent light on it.

The Army absolutely should not give a shite. It can wait
Is that really your viewpoint? That's some pretty fricked up shite if it is.

Wtf does "2016" have to do with anything? It's the same Army that sent men to die to stop the Germans in WW2. Cruel has nothing to do with it.
Are you really that dense to not understand how society has transformed in 70+ years?
I feel bad for you.

You're entitled to your opinion. It carries zero weight in the grand scheme of things.

what's behind your upset?
why are you angry?
why are you scared?
its not like she was texting during a pitched battle or even while she was in a war zone with nothing apparently going on.
If I were a senior, she would still be doing push ups. I think you can cure that kind of behavior easily.

If that's the case, it appears you have won, because that would make perfect sense.

Who is talking about society? We are talking about the military. It's something totally separate.
The things that get people killed, have not changed in thousands of years.
The #1 thing on that list,is lack of discipline.
It has always been the same,it must always be emphasized in any good military unit.
When that starts to break down, the unit will be worthless very soon.

I'm none of those. I was quoting another.

I agree.

Disagree emphatically.

Yes, they have. It went something like this; fire, hanging, swords, arrows, bullets, bombs. But what the frick do I know, right?

I'd put others ahead of that as #1, but I see your point.

I'm not disagreeing entirely, I'm just saying...take a fricking chill pill.

We are very obnoxious overall with our cell phone use.

Are you trolling or is your position seriously that the Army should allow marching cadets to use their cellphones to remind their family where to park and sit?

Are you trolling or it seriously your belief that society has transformed so much over the past 70+ years that war is no longer a possibility?
I'm glad we had this exchange so I don't make the mistake of getting worked up about anything you say in the future.

Not a troll on any of this. And that's not my position. My position is that none of y'all were involved in this incident, so you don't know what was/wasn't said. All you can go by is what your PRIOR experiences were.

Not war on the scale that 50-70 million people will lose their lives, like WW2...which you used as a comparison, remember.
Are you just super naive to the point that you think because of this undisciplined action by this woman, that the reputation of the Army has been tarnished for it's eternity?
What are your thoughts of General Washington hosting outrageous/lavish parties while most of his Army staved/froze? Is that honorable? I'd consider that action a far worse code of conduct violation than a cadet glancing at her phone for a second.
In summation, if you served..thank you. I mean that. I bet you were an awesome soldier, that never, ever, ever ever broke a rule or got caught.
