I'm 75.

What do YOU think?

This right here is why I have never wanted to live to be 100. There’s too many opportunities to live through tragedies. I have buried a sister, BIL, nephew and both parents. My worst fear in life is to outlive one of my children.

I’ve always said if you could guarantee me 85, as long as it’s good years and not being broke down and decrepit, I’d sign on the dotted line in a heartbeat.

shite, that is playing with house money that's over 10 years longer than the average US man lives. That's like saying you would take a hooker up on a next morning BJ on the house.

The most important question to ask at any age , especially as we reach old age, is when the body dies where does your eternal spirit spend eternity ? Only two options. You need to find out the truth before it’s too late. Peace

Genuinely curious how old you are and from what perspective you are saying this. I am 51 and the last 8 years have been some of the best of my life. Finally reached a level of financial security that allows me to live very comfortably and basically do whatever the frick I feel like doing. Have seen both my children begin their careers, both marry wonderful people, and both buy their first homes. I have been given 3 grandchildren in these past few years and that has been awesome. With the kids gone and the previously mentioned financial security, the wife and I have traveled a lot and already marked several things off our bucket list. Even after 30 years of marriage, I think we have gotten even closer these past 5 or 6. My dad is 72 and he and his wife are both very happy as well.

Life is what you make of it. Yes it helps to be financially stable and have good health but if you can check those two boxes then your twilight years don’t have to be as sad as you say.

Epiphany on aging

I list this under "sh*t I you can't do anything about".

So stop worrying about it.

I have. I'm ok with it. Still hoping to make it to my late 80s. I've taken serious steps to achieve that over the last 2 years.

But it is weird to realize I'm closer to 80 than 20. Feels like I was 20 about 5 years ago.

About 6 months ago I jumped off the tailgate of my truck rather than stepping off like I'm almost 47.

Flexibility os one area I have maintained. I've had some nasty trail falls over the past few years and managed to get by with just bruises and scrapes. I'm about convinced that my legs and arms are unbreakable.

Strength and stamina are an issue but I think thats as much due to my disease as it is aging.\

Youth is more exciting for sure, but older ages have more contentment and satisfaction.

I’m 53 and once I gave up on the notion that I had to have a hospital wing named after me or start a Fortune 500 business to “make it” in the world and started looking at the time ahead as a giant gift, my attitude changed. Yes, bad shite happens to us all, but the key is to slow down and appreciate the moments in between.

I did some early Christmas shopping yesterday with my three almost-grown kids. Everyone was laughing and getting along. Music was playing. The stores were decorated. It felt like heaven to me. Someday I hope to have a house filled with grand kids and I can’t wait to do it all again.

I have believed this to be the case since I was in my late 20’s, though.

Same exact age and situation as you. Got the shingles at 63 and they gave me a drug I never heard of (Gabapentin). 6 weeks of shingle hell. But, all the sudden no sciatica pain. Since then I take 600mgs every morning. Zero pain. Miracle drug for sure.

In the next phase, you’ll become virtually invisible to the vast majority of women in the world. Your appearance predominantly due to gravity is declined and women can’t even see you anymore.
