Can anybody really argue that we would be better off if we just got away from using products like glyphosate?

I'm guessing every farmer using it can say, with certitude, that things would be worse without glyphosate.

But that's not necessarily a good thing. High fructose corn syrup has found its way into everything and that shite is terrible for you. Tons of sugar in general is terrible for you. High fructose corn syrup is sugar on steroids.

by your logic, we should quit growing potatoes because they are used to make vodka and alcohol is bad for you.

most of you don't seem to appreciate the fact that our current farming practices-including using Roundup- is why we can feed as many people as we do.

this hasn't got shite to do cancer or safer food. Its a glittering example of why we need (more) Tort reform.

Let the farmers do what they do. Its seemed to work so far even if Billy Bob got lymphoma after 30 years of using Roundup contrary to the label instructions.

oh and, I'm one of those Billy Bobs who isn't reading the MSDS sheet or wearing PPE every time I need to spot treat some Virginia Button weed, but I'm not suing anyone when I get the diagnosis.

government subsidies are big part of that cost savings.

If it’s such a gravy train come get yourself some, then. We’re in the middle of the worst ag downturn since the 80’s, people selling land and equipment just to stay afloat, but by all means.

Honestly, these people asking to get rid of roundup, insecticides, and GMO’s would be the first ones to then bitch that food and clothing prices were too high. Do you know how much of the typical family’s budget was spent on food/clothing a hundred years ago? Nearly 60%. Now it’s less than 20%.

Is that what you want to return to? Because you’re not going to have money for computers or iPhones to bitch on if that’s where we return.

We also won’t have as healthy a soil, as removal of these advancements will force us to return to high tillage and traffic practices which destroy soils and promote erosion. Fantastic.

Got it.
Glyphosate okay.
Roundup good.
Agent Orange good.
Monsanto good. Dow good.
Monsanto GMO crops designed to work with Roundup good.
It's all good.
Monsanto quietly back in Vietnam.
I'm not an Eco-freak and global warming/climate change is a money scam and part of a globalist elite cabal to destroy the sovereignty of nations.

But the crap that goes on in big Pharmaceutical and big Agriculture is sketchy. CEOs resign and end up either in or heading up the agencies responsible for their oversight or lobbyists buying votes.

Anyway, I'll be tilting at wind turbines in the next chapter.

vinegar=acid

At 20% it is a strong, soil altering acid. Huge danger to eyes. Read the SDS

You use a LOT of chemicals that will kill things.

Very few of them are marketed as herbicides and are therefore tested for safety.

There is no way for example if you decided that you want to market diesel or gasoline as a herbicide that they would pass EPA scrutiny but they will definitely kill plants.

You are much better off using things regulated and marketed as herbicides than you are using unregulated chemicals for any purpose.

Agent orange was 2,4,5 T and existed prior to the EPA. It is off the market and has been almost since the advent of the EPA.

Lots of people seem to think we did not use herbicides prior to GMO plants allowed the use of glyphosate on them.

That simply is not true.

It would be very bad environmentally to end the use of GMOs and glyphosate. That would force farmers back to the herbicides of the seventies and eighties which were very persistent in the environment.

DDT was taken off the market in the USA because it was so persistent in the environment.

It would also force more hard tillage which is more harmful to the environment than any herbicide on the market today.
It would lead us back to a potential dustbowl situation

Plus more tillage = a lot more fossil fuels being used

Its the reason I laugh at people who think organic farming is sustainable or better for the environment

But they did an internship one summer when they were in college on organic farm run by people who also did a one summer internship on an organic farm when they were in college. To deny their expertise is just irrational and indoctrination by Big AG.
