But we getting into the discussion on Real Mined Diamonds vs Lab Made Diamonds.

The Natural Diamond Process
Due to the immense pressure that is present in this part of the earth, as well as the extreme temperatures, a diamond gradually begins to form. The entire process takes between 1 billion and 3.3 billion years, which is approximately 25% to 75% of our earth's age.

The Lab Diamond Process
The oven zaps natural gas into a plasma of carbon, which sticks to each seed and slowly builds up a diamond, atom by atom. A company called Pure Grown Diamonds told Business Insider that it can take anywhere from 10 to 12 weeks to bake up a batch of substantially-sized diamonds in its Singapore lab.

I am now on board with your friends arguing for the billion year old diamond

If you are making a 100% logical decision, what's the point of buying diamonds at all?

The whole "the month salary" thing was literally created by diamond companies as a marketing tool.

So there really isn't no type of tradition behind that other than a marketing campaign to sell more diamonds.

And diamonds depreciate in value. If anything. Skip the diamond and just buy more in gold.

Diamonds aren't scarce
Diamonds have very little value
Diamonds are a scam
You would be better of buying a watch like a Rolex, AP, or Patek they will hold their value much better and are far more liquid.

I got a 1 carat moissanite for my fiance. It was about $500 on a white gold band. She has never asked for grading papers and I've never talked about it. She thinks it's a big old diamond. We're both really happy with this.

I'm going to fricking tell her!

Dang, the OT has fallen on tough times.

Anyway, go to James Allen or Blue Nile (online, reputable, warrantied, real diamonds). About 60% the cost of a mall or Tiffany's ring with the same ratings on the "4 C's."

Clark Howard, or one his minions, took a $30K Tiffany's and $10K Costco ring of similar size and design to an appraiser once. You can guess which one was appraised higher.

First you take the ripoff of Diamonds in general, and then add a Tiffany's cardboard box holder. It's unbelievable. If your girl agrees she's a real keeper. If not, she's like 90% of the rest of them.

I got it for $1800. I took it to a local jewelry store when it came in, and they appraised it for over $10k.

Please tell us you have been using this cash machine. You realize how much money we're talking. You've got a connection in Israel selling diamonds that you can flip for 10X gains.

Yea this is the way to go.

I went to Anton’s in town... then found the exact same diamond, literally the exact same GIA number diamond, on James Allen. $1800 cheaper. Also didn’t pay state sales tax.

Bought on James Allen. Had it set by another jeweler in town.

It’s the way to go.. but I did a ton of research. I went to Kay early on in my search, you just can’t even compare their selection to what’s available on JA and BN.

Buy what you can afford. If she expects something you shouldn’t be with her.

I bought a lab made diamond for about $1500. She loves the ring. It’s carbon placed under extreme heat and pressure. Same thing happens in nature, just over millions of years. And no, the ring should not cost three month’s salary. That’s fricking retarded. If you make $2000 per month, are you really going to spend $6000 on a ring? Hell no. If your girlfriend expects that, dump her uppity arse.

I bought mine a long time ago so the propaganda machine was only demanding 2 months salary. I was young and dumb and spent 2 months salary. It "appraised" for 3x what I paid. I told her to sell it and that I would get her a better one and a used car. She went with "No".

The diamond thing is one of the top 10 stupidest things we can subject ourselves to.

I get to use my Grandma's ring if I ever decide to get married. It's small but my Grandma was an awesome lady. If a girl gets pissed about the ring I'll know to send her packing.

This is such a common occurrence. Add in insurers going off the appraised value, and I have to believe the rate of insurance fraud on diamonds is astronomical.

Appraisal makes you think you got a "great deal" while the insurance company can charge you more.

It's a win-win except for your bank account.

I made that mistake once and learned my lesson. When I was first married, we were poor and I was able to get a small diamond. About 12 years later, I was told that ring no longer showed the proper amount of esteem. So, I bought a new, larger, fairly expensive diamond. A year later, we were separated and on the road to divorce.

I'm just speaking from my own perspective; what anyone else does is their business and none of mine. However, if I ever buy another one, it will be a CZ.

I designed my ring with a one carat moissanite. It’s just a little more than that

It’s beautiful and exactly what I want so I don’t care that the center stone isn’t a diamond. I think that’s a waste of money
