Why? I'd guess a grandma takes him in like my wife and I would do if something happened to our children.

Because they likely have no documentation or anything prepared.

How in the world are you not wearing a seat belt on the way to a car crash scene?

Saw the wreck scene and took a pic. That belt would not have mattered. Worst wreck I’ve ever seen. Couldn’t tell if it was a car or truck (was a car). No doubt he was going 120 plus.

That is awful. Guy was distraught and in a rush especially after maybe having to get someone to watch the kid before leaving (don’t see a kid being involved mentioned in either accident).

Both were not wearing seatbelts, but I am not if that would have helped with the guy as he was traveling south on 67 at a high rate of speed before leaving the road to the left due to being unable to make the curve to the right around 67 & Idlewild RD and then hitting a tree. He was ejected from vehicle, so I guess not knowing how direct or bad the impact with the tree was there is a chance a person could have survived if wearing a seatbelt.

Engaged with a 4 year old kid kinda tells you they probably weren't serious people and that kid likely stayed with the grandma, etc. Poor kid.

Leaping tall buildings, I see.

When people say, "everything happens for a reason," and "God is in control," this is the kind of thing that makes me shake my head. God either chose to make this little boy an orphan or he couldn't stop it from happening.

No one knows the mind of God... but the Bible states he gave us free will.

Unfortunately, these two drivers willfully took certain actions that endangered their lives and complicated their child's future.

Could be a night shift for work as well.

Article said she was a recent Southern graduate, but then it also said she taught at East Feliciana STEAM Academy. She still could be working a summer job if school is out, but regardless of alcohol situation it does seem more like she was returning home from a social gathering Thursday night around 2am Friday morning. It doesn’t automatically mean alcohol was cause.

Besides the kid I feel bad for the parents. From the article his parents seem to be good people and don’t seem to imply any issue with his fiancée driving home that late. I feel like they are going to do their best for the kid.

“I love them and I’m gonna miss both of them and I’m gonna find the strength to go ahead,” said JR’s father, Arthur Collins.

Holding back tears, the families of Alexus Lee and John “JR” Collins remember the engaged couple’s lives cut short. His parents held hands while talking about their whirlwind romance.

“He loved Alexus as well as everybody else who knew her. To know her was to love her,” said JR’s mother, Sandra Collins.

They leave behind their 4-year-old little boy, Gabriel.

“He understands what happened, and he’s just having a little problem comprehending that we can’t talk to them. We can’t see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God,” said Sandra Collins.

Sandra Collins said. “Even though they left a child behind, we have a great support system. The two families will blend, and we will do whatever it takes to give him a good life,”

“I know they left here knowing their child is in good hands, for sure,” Dominque Lee said.
