FWIW the applicant can still use this to their advantage but it no longer potentially hurts them.

This is comical to me. Like it’s really that hard to find out what someone made at their last job.

Or my favorite is the part about not having to reveal criminal history. There are other ways to get that also

Won't be long till it's illegal for a white male to turn down a job offer simply because the pay is lower.

Seems the best way to skate around this would be to ask "What kind of salary do you think you deserve and why"

But tax records are public right? So they can figure it out.

, explain why what you're paid somewhere else to do something else should matter? An employer wants to know so they don't overpay. If the offer is too low, the candidate will let you know.

Negotiations.

The law is more symbolic than anything but it's an infringement on the rights of employers.

Well yeah, but you just said it's not held against employees if they're underpaid.

Is it? I mean these companies usually have policies that bar discussing wages among coworkers, but they need to know what you make elsewhere to be sure their offer is as low as possible.

The rationale behind Ban the Box is so an ex-con can get an interview and make a good enough impression so the employer is willing to overlook the background check.

Probably overrated since a serious crime will result in a significant gap in the candidate's work history.

A person's past salaries are variables that can help determine the quality of a candidate.

This is not true at all. When we hire people all previous salary determines is how little they'd probably be willing to take in order to make the jump over.

Basically if we were hiring for a position in the $60k - $80k range and found out that the best candidate is only making $35k then we might not even offer him $60k. Maybe $50k will get him to come over.. If he makes $70k then we'd offer him $80k and if we don't know what he currently makes then we'd probably start at $60k and start negotiations from there.

It's not. Unless you're considering salary negotiations to be against the employee.

In fact, history may help a younger person get the job.

It's up to the employee to accept an offer, the employer cannot force a guy to accept a position

Why should it matter?
Let say your company is in trouble and cuts everybody's pay in half.ex. (100k to50k) You starting interviewing the next month. If they ask what's your current salary honest answer in 50k, should that factor into what they offer?

Neither are anti pot laws because people smoke anyway, right?

Funny how people are so wish washy when it comes to rights.
