Go to the 45min mark in the YouTube link. It begins with a question about parents having the right to decide if their children will wear masks in schools, and he actually says that

We know the children's hospitals are running low on beds, which I don't doubt, but they need to give us better data like we have for the adults.

The only thing I ever saw was a statement from the Lake Children's Hospital that they had 18 pediatric covid patients admitted, and that was the most they had ever had.

While the delta wave was the worst for 0-17 hospitalizations it peaked somewhere just over 1.2 per 100,000. The previous wave it had gotten to .6 per 100,000.

So, 99.9988% chance.
Instead of 99.9994%.

The reaction does not match the risk.

Their is a huge difference between sickness and death. We are now only tracking illnesses and making bad decisions in the sake "the greater good".

at this point anyone who chooses not to get it assumes the risks.

You know, this whole message of “if you don’t get the vaccine, you’re literally killing people” is a big part of the problem IMO.

This made sense, to a point, when the idea was that we needed to build up herd immunity. But that kind of goes out the window if people with the vaccine are actually being infected and transmitting the virus - especially if they are showing mild symptoms or no symptoms.

So, everyone needs to get the vaccine because vaccines aren’t 100% effective and we need high vaccination rates to achieve herd immunity. But also, you unvaccinated folks can’t just rely on everyone else because vaccinated people can still transmit delta. Oh and also, your chances of being hospitalized go way down once you get the vaccine.

The logic brings you back to going “OK, so that means there is no herd immunity and the at-risk population needs to protect themselves with the vaccine.” The people who have the vaccine and bitch about the unvaccinated being a risk because “you’re risking my life” are being pretty damned disingenuous, IMO.

So now the narrative is shifting, again, to the strain on our healthcare system. Don’t get me wrong - there is a legitimate strain on that system. The nursing shortage is real, and the public will ultimately pay the financial toll of all of these hospitalizations through tax dollars and insurance premiums. But are people dying in the ER waiting room after car accidents because they can’t find a bed? If not, don’t act like they are. Call a spade a spade.

I am be no means anti-vaccine. I think it would be great if everyone got it. But I can see why people get turned off by the snobbery.

So if LC area runs out, they send you maybe to Nola. Works for me. Not ideal of course but it works.

Where are all the new beds that were added over the last 1 1/2 years?

Oh.

Has this actually happened anywhere in Louisiana yet?

I’m aware that OLOL announced that they were going to require it by a certain date (which has not yet passed). BRG is not making it mandatory as of right now from what I understand.

I would be amazed if any of these hospitals fired unvaccinated nurses, particularly ICU nurses, while having anything near the current number of hospitalizations. But maybe I missed some news from one of the other systems.

They are making it so oppressive if you don't, that you almost have to get it.

Personally I suspect it’s only a matter of time before President Blunder decides that any hospital with patients covered under Medicaid or Medicare will need to have their staff vaccinated. Much like the decision for nursing homes. The hospitals taking steps already are probably just preparing in advance for the clusterfack it will become.

So what do hospitals do to combat the nursing shortage? They mandate every employee to get vaccinated or lose their jobs. That sure will help fix the nursing shortage and sick Covid patients!
