Hughes did a lot of weird shite.
IIRC, he liked one particular flavor of ice cream that got discontinued. He bought the recipe for it. Turned out that the recipe was for some ungodly amount of ice cream, more than one man could ever eat, so that flavor ended up being offered free at a bunch of drive in movie theaters he owned.
Edit - Looks like it was Baskin Robbins’ Banana Nut ice cream and 100 gallons of it.
