Musk tries so desperately hard to be Tony Stark.

When he's actually a lot closer to Justin Hammer (film version).

As long as he's not the one trying to dock the ship to the space station, the colonists would be fine.

He also warns there's a 'good chance' that early passengers could die...so they have that going for them.

I just looked at the poli board, I'll take that chance.

I'm curious just what he thinks we are going to do here that will not just destroy all of humanity on Earth, but destroy the moon as well.

If we are a violent enough society to destroy the entire earth and it's population, why would we deserve to populate another planet with our kind?

The article said nothing to the opposite... only that "SpaceX is working on a vehicle that will take humans to Mars, a 100-metre ship codenamed the BFR (Big fricking Rocket)."

This is a clusterfrick in the making. I hope I'm not around to see it.

Not to mention that unless we completely Alderaan the planet, there will be many more survivors with access to better resources on Earth anyway.

Mars would suck. What would you do there for the rest of your life?

Musk is a genius; however, he over-promises far too often. When he makes statements like this one, many people think he has man-kinds best interest at heart only. I guess it takes a southern, jock baw to see past some of his bullshite.

Serious question. Why is the solution for the end of Earth always colonizing the moon/Mars/space? I get it in the context of WW3 bringing a nuclear holocaust that wipes out all life on the planet, but most of the time it comes up in discussions about how we are using all the earth's resources/ screwing with the environment and ecosystem through poor practices and overpopulation. In that case, isn't it more feasible to solve those problems HERE ON EARTH? Why can't these same "self-sustaining" environments exist on this planet?

Elon has lots of ideas - just needs taxpayer dollars to fund them.

It certainly takes a presumptuous one to think that others wouldn't assume that a business person has conflicts of interest or potential conflicts of interest.

By all means though, continue believing that you have some sort of rare insight that others are missing.

Either that or something about his company's middling financials is due to be released.

He loves to get ahead of those by promising something big and distract us.
