First off, I’m not an expert in theology, biology, the law, civil rights or a myriad of fifteen other things that get brought up (at times I feel I have to be). So I will answer as to my opinion on the matter.
1. Absolutely.
2. No, not always. It has been my experience and been confirmed by my therapist that there are many out there who claim to be trans, that aren’t. She has denied letters of recommendation for individuals many times and keep in mind, I live in a very liberal community. It is of my opinion that those questioning, need to seek a professional. Those parents who have a child that is questioning, need to seek a professional. Many doctors will not prescribe hormones without letters of recommendation from therapists or qualified mental health professionals.
3. I’m not sure why we’re discussing age. In my opinion, that’s apples and oranges. So I’m not prepared to discuss that. All I know, is that I knew I was different from early on, six years old. I knew I wanted be a girl by 10. And finally had a name for it by 13, and when I went to the library. (This was the 1980’s). Furthermore, age can be easily determined throughout a number of tests, measurements, etc. Experts haven’t been able to figure out why transgender folks are the way we are. I don’t know what happened to my brain while in my mother’s womb, I.e. hormone or chemical imbalance that caused it, was it genetic? I have no answers.
This wasn’t a choice and isn’t some fun little journey. It’s can be painful, peaceful, at times gut wrenching. I am full of guilt and shame for what I am and the what my loved ones must fee; this existence can be brutal. But I’m finally happy and no longer angry at the world. It’s been a long and difficult road of self discovery to get to this spot.
Just some rando thoughts.
