Is the conservative position to provide two meals instead of one?

Who would steal 30 bag lunches?
I used to eat 3 lunches each day. My own bag, and two plate lunches. Teachers stopped caring about me making it to class on time because I never did until I finished. That was high school though

Yes the goal is to eliminate embarrassment and competition. I don't understand why you would want to eliminate either one. They're not even allowed to play kickball or dodge ball anymore cause some kids aren't as good and get their feelings hurt. Jesus Christ, give me a break.

Did this article once ask the question to the parents as to what was preventing them from paying for the lunches?

Of course not. It's always someone else's fault.

I hate this new idea that parents are off-limit. This article should one that revolves around how shitty these parents are, and happenes to mention the part about lunches getting thrown away.

Not to thread hijack, but is anyone else absolutely sick of the word "bullying" being used in our schools every three minutes?

Absolutely. The term "bullying" has completely lost all meaning. It has morphed into a overreaching term to describe basically any act which a child doesn't like. As you stated in your post, failing to share a snack is now "bullying." Per usual, the Prog./lack of self-accountability crowd thinks the way to stop bullying is through legislation.

Back to the OP, I'm sure throwing these kids lunches away was not the first step in trying to get the delinqunet accounts paid. The water company doesn't shut off your water immediately upon your failure to pay the bill. You get multiple notices before they do so. While it seems unnecessary that the school should have to waste the food, I've got ZERO problem with the school not allowing the children to "purchase" lunch with a negative balance. If it embarrasses them then so be it. One would think it would embarrass their dead beat parents more, but judging from the responses thats not the case. What lesson is being taught to these kids if they are allowed to eat just the same as those whose parents do WHAT YOUR'RE SUPPOSED TO DO and pay the bill timely? One would think the kids would go home and say "Mom, Dad, I would really like to eat more than just an orange for lunch, can you please pay the bill?" An one would also think that as a parent you would be so humiliated that your child had to ask you to to this that you would immediately pay the balance and take whatever steps necessary to ensure that this did not happen again.

In a perfect world, this would be the situation..In the world we live in, the parents aren't home, don't care, etc. I hear these stories first hand all the time...My wife CONSTANTLY wants to bring kids home and feed them and tuck them into bed, just so they know that someone cares for them..

Ralph's throws away everything left over from breakfast/lunch/dinner every day. In the dumpster.
It should go to the homeless shelter.
But rules be rules.

Are you really concerned about 40 wasted cafeteria lunches?

There is however a need for help..I don't know how any parent could allow themselves to not intervene in a situation where a child will be cold, hungry, etc. just because their parents are Asshats.

The bigger issue is that the parents went to the news with this.

Not only were they not embarrassed by not taking care of their child, they felt THEY were the victim and went to a news outlet with this. Showing little regard for their own character or the embarrassment of their own child.

You think the child was embarrassed because they had to eat an orange at school? I'm sure they feel much better now that the whole country knows.

The dumbass parent is short sighted and selfish.

Amazing isn't it?

THEY TOOK AWAY MY CHILD'S FOOD AND MADE HIM EAT FRUIT!

Ma'am, did you receive the numerous notices that we've sent to you regarding your overdue balance?

YES BUT I DON'T SEE HOW THAT'S RELEVANT!

THERE is a need to make the parents prioritize.

Hmm let's see. I have enough money to get a pack of cigarettes or feed my kids.
