Do mental institutions even really still exist? We’re so worried about infringing on people’s rights I’m not sure they do.

They absolutely do. I'm pretty close to someone that's been in one. They aren't the insane asylums we had 30 years ago though.

How about you come up with a viable solution instead of deflecting because of the right to bear arms?
I love this. The person want take away freedom is calling out others to prove hey need to keep their freedoms. 180 degrees backward.

It’s hilarious to me that many of the same people that say “we don’t need marijuana laws, pot smokers aren’t hurting anyone” and ”drunk driving laws are too restrictive, just a couple of drinks and your life can be ruined” turn around and say we should ban guns.

The number of lawful gun owners that go on to commit any sort of crime (much less mass shooting event) is statistically insignificant. Far less so that smoking pot and drunk driving.

I’m not a mental illness expert so I can’t really say which other ones should or shouldn’t. That’s a very broad range.

Fair enough. At least you admit it. Unlike va.

So who should decide? A panel? How do we choose said panel?

IMO, the background checks should be more thorough or at least revised. I don’t know how, I don’t have those answers. But some people are just unstable, shouldn’t and aren’t capable of legally carrying a firearm

Well, I mean..... what else is a background check gonna show that they don’t already?

Another nonanswer

quote:

How many mental people actually seek out treatment?? That’s the problem. They don’t and the ones that need it don’t get it.

And you want to punish people for seeking help... do you not see how that goes against wanting people to seek help?

Do you think your avg deer hunter is going to go to a shrink if he’s depressed, knowing that the shrink will be able to strip him of one of the things he enjoys most?

The State Police or ATF? Don’t they already control who can and cannot own a gun?

State police and ATF aren’t the ones making a decision on someone’s mental health. A mental health professional is.

Add in the fact that once you start letting the government take away freedoms they’ll never stop. “He doesn’t have the right to a fair trial because he’s crazy”
“He can’t speak in public because he’s crazy”
“We’ve got to check inside his house because he’s crazy”

See, it’s not just about the gun issue. It’s about keeping all of our constitutional rights.

We live in the most peaceful time in human history. Save me your “we have a problem” bullshite.

The solution is to PROTECT YOURSELF.

Only YOU can defend YOU.

Not surprisingly the point went right over your head. Law abiding citizens exercising their right to own guns isn’t the issue. Show me another country in the world that has the same problems with mass murder with guns as “the greatest country in the world”? There’s a problem.

I await you response.

Gun owners can pay more of a tax too. I'm sure everyone would be ok with paying a few more dollars a year if it saves lives.
Im sure this dude woke up and said “man, no gun tax...I should go shot up a Walmart!!

Ok. I get it. You’re ok with 62, or 20 or whatever number getting slaughtered now and then so it doesn’t affect your rights. Thanks for clarifying.

Show me another country with our diversity, population, and amount of personal freedom.

Yay emotions instead of logic!

More importantly, he should show us another country that has a constitutionally protected right to bear arms.

When will people like yourself realize that we don’t have a gun problem in this country and that we have a morality problem?

I don’t think we have a gun problem nor do I think we have morality problem and I would like to blame it on mental health but I honestly can’t. I’m starting to believe some people are just born evil and are destined to do things like this and nothing is going to change it.

Let’s just say this and hopefully we can agree

Can we at least put more emphasis and throw more resources and research towards mental health in this country? Maybe that will reduce the number of crazies that would be able to posses a gun. That’s one form of gun control without taking away anyone’s guns and doing nothing with the background checks.

Let’s get to the root of the problem, it’s the whackos.

And you’re okay with making innocent people be defenseless.

I’d rather people have the ability to defend themselves.
